I'm watching this awesome 1960s street punk movie on the FilmFest channel right now and wanted to recommend it to someone, but can't find it on DVD. Not at Netflix, Amazon, eBay, no listing for a DVD in IMDB, not even torrents of it. Any ideas as to where I might find a copy?

The film was released in the US as "The Weird Lovemakers"

I'm guessing that the version that was on FilmFest is different than this one because of the different English title. We'll see.

Apparently the US version 'The Weird Lovemakers' was edited/cut and English dubbed...while this copy is subbed...so it may be off the original Japanese version...hopefully.

I missed a Nikkatsu film festival here in Seattle. This is the description they had (also, I thought I read this was a lead up to a possible DVD release sometime soon):

"THE WARPED ONES (aka SEASON OF HEAT and THE WEIRD LOVEMAKERS) is visually raw and stunning. Released not long after Godard’s BREATHLESS, THE WARPED ONES has similarly amoral characters, frenetic pace and dynamic hand-held cinematography. But Kurahara’s vision is more extreme, to the point of existing in a world of its own. The protagonist transcends the usual social and moral categories, like an animal in human form. (Kurahara reportedly told the actor Kawachi to think of his character as a "hungry lion roaring at the sun.") A fascinating experiment in style (not to mention the limits of human behavior), Kawachi's famously uninhibited performance catapults the film into the highest ranks of "bad youth" cinema, and perfectly captures the essence of Beat. The U.S. version had been previously released on DVD by Something Weird Video.
