craigslist. no one ever buys anything from you on there. they ask a million questions, all of which the answers can be found in the sale description. and then, the negotiating process begins. and once you give in and meet there price, you never hear from them again...

The sale section here isn't far off that. ;)

That's why "pay and claim" sales are the way to go. 8)

I buy stuff off of Craigslist. About 85% of the things we needed for our baby we got from craigslist because new stuff is outrageously priced and the business of tricking new parents to spend loads of money is HUGE.

BUT before all that, I got stuff from craigslist all the time, I LOVE it! Desks, TV Stands, bookshelves, man all sorts of junk. I've never sold on there, though. I imagine a lot of dead end emails before someone buys.....like andy said...a little like this place sometimes.

Yeah, I've had nothing but great experiences on Craigslist. The only issue I've ever had with selling was the time spent saying "sorry, it's sold" to the overwhelming amount of responders.

Yeah, hate it. I put a tandem kayak on there (inflatable) at a great price, 75 because I didn't want to ship it. Got all these emails, I'll give you 50 I'll give you 25, one dude even wrote, we can't give you any money for it but you'll have the pleasure of knowing kinds are enjoying it.
Another time I put a box of comics on there  that's all I can say.

We have had some great experiences, and also some serious flakes.

I've also managed to get some decent tickets to sold out shows at the last minute as well.

The people who look for shit for free make me laugh though. If I wanted to give it away, wouldn't I have listed it that way?

Sorry s_l_m but I love CL!
Especially when I was a broke and needed to furnish my place.
My roommate and I scoured CL for free furniture when we first moved in.
It's funny because we eventually sold all the free stuff we got to fund real furniture.

Furniture might be where I draw the line. I would have issues not knowing what had happened previously on a "free couch".

Dirty people have bugs.

You'd be surprised, though. A lot of the free stuff I got was barely used by upper class, clean people. Fools who had so much cash they just gave crap away because it didn't match something else they just bought and probably won't use and give away for free in a few months.

Yea...I had issues with it but needed something to sit on.
All the free stuff we picked up was cleaned thoroughly.
One time we went to pick up a couch but ended up walking away with a free foosball table.

Do you think they did nasty stuff on the foosball table?

hmmm. it must just be the comics crowd that are flakes then, cuz it seems everyone has had good experiences with it. i listed about 5 sets of mint in package dc direct figures for $180 (which is like 75% of retail, not to mention that the contemporary teen titans superboy has sold recently on ebay for $75 alone!), and some guy offered me $75 for the whole lot! some other dude who lives like 30 miles away said he was definitely interested in buying them. no price negotiation, straight $180. when i tried getting his address or number from him, it took 4 days for him to e-mail me back just to say "sorry. i guess i don't want them now," which, in the meantime, some dude offered $160, and i turned him down. i messaged the $160 guy back, but never heard from him again. whew!

after all that, i decided i'd rather keep these things, because the time alone wasted on trying to get these people to go through with the deals wasn't even worth $180!

I think you have to find a board/forum that specializes in comic figures and try and sell there. Maybe even on McFarlane's forum.

My experience with Craigslist was that I found a woman selling a hard to findl contemporary metal lamp that I wanted. We went back and forth in email about the price and then when I could stop by to pay for it and pick it up. Later she writes back that she's decided to keep the lamp and that its no longer for sale.

Complete waste of time and frustrating.

that's a good idea. i never knew McFarlane had a forum, i'll have to check it out. thanks for the info! and that old lady is the perfect example of the hassles behind craigslist...

I've had nothing but good experiences with CL. Half the stuff in my house came from CL.

It depends. 4-5 years ago, I think Craigslist here in NYC was just perfect. I was able to sell, buy and even give away stuff to great people.

This past year or so, I've had nothing but loons contact me via Craigslist. Even one couple of guys looking to buy a bike from me who were shady as heck.

People is as people does. But I think Craigslist could be better nowadays if people paid to post. Maybe $20 a year with some basic limit. Anything to help clean things up.

I once sold all of the furniture from a past apartment on craigslist in about a week. I've never had too much of an issue.

I also found the coolest furniture I've ever owned (two nautical-themed end tables and a nautical themed coffee table with inlayed wooden ship sculptures covered by glass plates) for a total of $60
