 Re: New Zudon coming
m3kcomp wrote: onibaba5 wrote: A "buy it if you like it" comment sounds more like a defensive statement as opposed to discussing it. just for the record, I said "buy it if you like it" because people are trying to stir things up about how this thing may or may not be "the next bemon"...which doesn't matter in the slightest...it had nothing to do with avoiding dicussion of the Zudon's merits. I'm always fascinated by the people who comment at length on toys they hate. I really just don't feel that need. I buy what I like and I like the Zudon (among many other sculpts). I happen to dislike the OG Bemon....go figure. But I don't go storming into every Bemon lover's thread and tell people it looks like a steaming pile of shit instead of a pinched loaf like the Zudon. Actually, no one ever does that for fear of the Bemon police bringing down the hammer. (all hail LB...seriously.) Anyway, in regards to the Zudon itself...it's a fun toy. The eye is a really cool and an interesting new element in my collection. I didn't see it as a gimmick. The weight of the toy, the thickness of the vinyl, really adds to the quality feel. The crudeness of the sculpt adds to the silliness of the character, which is the appeal for me. The version that won me over the the Jyarinko, which I was lucky enough to have a friend get for me, and once I got it in my hands I was thrilled. I feel that "buy it if you like it" should be the effing motto here, and not seen as a deflection. every problem that comes up regarding the toys we like happens when people stray from this, the golden rule of collecting...collecting ANYTHING. I didn't really take "Is Zudon the new Bemon ?" as necessarily a negative comment, just a rhetorical question Lorne, even if it was we should be able to have discussions on why folks dislike something as much as why folks like something. I do agree with you that we can do without the dispensing of vulgar descriptions and harsh hating in threads that are on a more positive note towards something and be more respectful towards others tastes but this is an open forum and it is what it is. "Buy it if you like it" goes without saying as a personal motto to most serious collectors, but it shouldn't be a motto that deters rational discussions whether it's about likes or dislikes. I apologize if I derailed the positive excitement towards the Zudon. Back to Zudon...well, the eye does peak my curiosity, in that it adds some animation to the figure which seems to be somewhat of a first. When the Rangeas first came out, I thought it's expression/eyes were just too goofy and I disliked that characteristic about it. Then I finally got one in my hands and I was hooked.

So what is the story with the eye? Does it roll around or something?

onibaba5 wrote: I guess if a Bemon and Zag mated you'd get a Zudon. It doesn't really appeal to me either but to each his own. Aside from not liking how it looks though, I really thought it was poorly designed by having the torso split under the armpit. MMM donno, If I had to engineer the rotation mold for this I'd recommend that the body articulation be where it is. The way the head is shaped and the location of where the arms comes out. It might be tricky to pull it from the mold if it where any lower ,,like at the waist. It's funny seeing all the comparison to the Bemon. The first thread on the Zodon I had made (I believe) the first comment on how it had a "Bemon vibe to it"

The one on the right, looks like something Fetish Mode would produce. Those are both characters from the Yokai Monsters movies that are based on traditional Yokai. They are done by Bear Model. The one on the right is called Nopperobuo. He's a blob of flesh (or sometimes clay)that guards abandoned temples. He absorbs people who desecrate the temple. This version is based on the drawings of Mizuki, who depicted him as a penis. The other character is also from the Yokai films. He inflates his belly and shows images in it, like a crystal ball.

 Re: New Zudon coming
dude I need to re-watch my Yokai flicks... I watched Gegege no Kitaro all the way through for the first time the other day, but I dont recall either of these guys in there, and I've still yet to watch anything but bits and pieces of Miike's Yokai War... Guess I'll try again

Guess I'll try again These particular versions of these characters are based on the Daiei Yokai Monsters films from the late 60's. I think they are called, 100 Ghosts and Spook Warfare. Both of these characters appear in these films.
