Re: Does SB need a new "KR Korner" ?
OK--so after lurking this thread for a long time, and dabbling in various toy areas I have a general question-- but perhaps this has been covered to death in another thread buried in the board.
So given all the disdain for certain other toy makers why is there is very little in the way of actual critique? Absent specific facts sometimes certain posts here sound like blind partisan thinking.
I don't want to go on about why X company blows but honestly I can see how in general, platform toys with very little in the way of original sculpt detail are a medium that is all about cachet and very little about real inspiration. Alternately the Japanese kaiju and fight figures that S7 moves are often very detailed and inspired. While platforms do allow people to create their own toy very easily this almost seems like a slight of hand trick--"hey guess what we sell you a toy and you just have to create it." Detailed kaiju and other vinyl are already interested but also amenable to customization.
I've been moving along a toy collecting continuum that started several years ago when I met someone who collected Transformers and other robots--and when I hit S7 the first time it was sort of like the platonic form of the perfect toys fell out of the sky-
That said I don't feel any need to have a partisan approach to this toy collecting business--my $5 Ultraman kaiju sit beside newer and more expensive vinyl.
Anyway I'm just saying, as a newcomer I want to hear what people think about sculpts and toys and such, not which crew they roll with or feel compelled to flash handsigns for. A real critique of xyz toy line would be interesting.

However, as a newcomer, you may want to observe what it is people here like to talk about (i.e. what this board is about) and then it will become mindlblowingly obvious why we're not discussing the minutia of every chase d.unny. There are no handsigns needed, because there's a big fucking sign on the door to get in letting you know where you just landed. Example: when I first discovered the internet, I joined a Devo newsgroup. They talked about Devo. No one talked about Neil Diamond. It was a newsgroup for people who enjoyed talking about Devo. extrapolate and breathe deep the gathering gloom...

Got it--good reply. I guess I don't mean I want to hear about D-unny's ad naseum either--after all I'm here for the same things as everyone else. I only meant in a thread that bashed certain other manufacturers/forums it would be refreshing to hear why that line is worn out or lacks innovation--that's it. Perhaps to many it is so self-apparent that it doesn't warrant mention.

You haven't spent alot of time over on the KR board, have you? Cause you know the new rules:

Re: Does SB need a new "KR Korner" ?
Hedoro, welcome aboard (seriously). In regards to your perceived blind partisan bashing of certain toys it's not really like that here. No one gets bonus points in the secret handshake society for every 10 bashes on platform toys. This forum isn't the anti-kr forum, it's a japanese (kaiju and all things related) toy forum so we like to keep the focus on that. If you use the search function you'll find a wealth of knowledge and even some insightful opinions on why people love the japanese toys as opposed to platform stuff.

Re: Does SB need a new "KR Korner" ?
Have to say this as noone else has (although, heaven knows, it's been discussed here often enough before):
It's been like this from the get-go. BF is the owner of this website. BF, for whatever reason, does not want discussion of KR or KR related goods.
/thread.
I would just add though that some of the reasons cited above make perfect sense to me. Basically, this is a forum for discussion of JAPANESE toys. True, many of us came here from KR ... BUT THAT WAS BECAUSE WE WERE MEANT TO. Start any kind of Western Toys forum and we will be FLOODED with KRids, and you would quickly find out why we don't want that.
Wanna talk about Western Toys? KR is thataway ---> 'Bye.

I have to say, I've checked that board out twice. I decided that if I were to decide to stop there a 3rd time, instead I would flatten my testicles with a wooden mallet....all the agony but much more enjoyable.

Bob Flanagan is the first thing I thought of when Hillsy made the testicle smash comment. Flashbacks of him nailing his dick to a board from that doc about him instantly popped into my head.
