LOST lost me about midway through Season 2. I loved Season 1, but I just couldn't take the continued timeslot changing, the weeks of reruns, and the ultra slow plot development. I began to get pissed and would scream "would it kill them to just give a little more away?" It was too much of a tease. Also whatever happened to the giant polar bears or invisible monsters that thrashed people about?

I got into the show about midway thru the 2nd season. I do agree that the switching nights/time slots was a mess, not to mention the writers strike.

You should revisit them on dvd...it's the best way to watch the show. You can burn thru a season in just a couple of days!

Ol Smokey is still around!

In just a few hrs I'll be able to have a few drinks and catch up with the castaways! :P

Post Re: LOST
My wife and I have watched it from day one and I thought that the season opener last night was one of the best yet---probably worth a second viewing right away, even!

The one thing that continually puzzles me is how Hurley could be stuck on an island with little to eat, aside from a few boxes of stale D.I. cereal (or whatever) and somehow manage to gain weight! Must certainly have something to do with the island's mysterious properties, because I also watch Survivor and it only takes a month for folks to slim down to sometimes unhealthy weights on that show...

...and poor John Locke has to take one for the team...his unwavering belief in something he doesn't fully understand is like a religion, in a way...

This has been, for the most part, one of the best television shows I've seen---I sure hope there are a few more answers before the series wraps up!

Post Re: LOST
You guys are all crazy. Lost fell off the map almost completely for me in the middle of season three. I watched last nights opening for kicks and thought it was almost laughable. There was a sublime moment where a character said something along the lines of "I don't have time to explain. It's too complicated and there's just not enough time". The writers have clearly embraced that idea wholeheartedly. If you took notes during each recent episode and compared certain explanations and events to events of seasons past you would see how much goes unexplained and how many incongruencies there are. If you enjoy it all power to you but IMO it's made a steep fall from the greatness of seasons 1 and 2.

I don't know I felt like it was a pretty decent premiere last night. I'll admit the non linear story telling will most likely continue to baffle me at times, but they continue to suck me in as well. One of the things they have done right for me anyways, is make you the viewer care about these characters so much. I have to know how it turns out each week!
It's not for everyone and especially not if you prefer things to be resolved clearly. Part of that is what keeps me coming back.
In comparison to other crap on the boob tube, LOST is still worth my time to watch.

I also left at the beginning of season three. It just felt like there was never going to be a satisfying explanation to anything.

Though I am still curious, and have heard alot of cool things about it, so I am more than willing to check out the recent stuff.

^This.
(Plus I had to watch it on cable. You think YOUR scheduling was bad? ... Man!)
Basically I think it was destroyed by it's own success.
Now they just seem to be dragging it out with no clear idea where it's going.
Story would've made a great movie.
Shame.

Exactly! The way they draw people in is the same reason the show has begun to deteriorate. Each episode they create suspense by leaving the audience with 10-20 unanswered questions. While doing this, they solve about 5 unanswered questions from previous episodes. What happens to the other unanswered questions? They simply get swept under the rug and forgotten by an audience that is so overstimulated with mystery and suspense that it is impossible to focus on anything other then the most recent question presented.

overstimulation and general lack of understanding of what is going on are a couple of things I've grown (almost) accustomed to...

The black smoke and the "Others" are a couple of things I'm most curious about...the time phase issue could loosely explain a number of other island oddities...

Even though you say it may not have lived up to its initial promise, can you agree that it is still one of the better shows on network television?

As far as a movie version goes, they'd probably only screw it up as they did with the X-Files and numerous other attempts to reclaim small-screen magic.

There is nothing on TV that comes close! Even with it's short comings it's better then anything else on.

I think you nay sayers are crazy.

Although I will give you that season 2 blew and season 3 was OK. Season 4 was amazing, almost as good as season 1. Last nights premiere pretty much solidified any theories I had about what is going on. Great opener and I'm stoked on the season so far.

Not hating at all.
And yes, it is still one of the best shows on network television.
They just 'lost' ME somewhere along the way.
I'd def like to sit down and watch it through properly on DVD one day though.

And I didn't mean it would've made a great movie as a spin-off,
but rather INSTEAD OF a TV series.

Anybody into sharing what they think is going on?
If you were the Director and you were told that this was going to be the final season ...
How would you wrap it up?

when the group that stayed behind first phased to the past, i was totally thinking that they would become "the natives" of the island... i was obviously proved wrong few minutes later when they phased to the future.
i come up with the lamest thoughts and theories.
my friend told me just to think the opposite of what i am thinking

but that's what i alike about the show... coming up with crazy idea and seeing what ideas the creators had.

With the island disappearing and the castaways popping around through time, I think that they are the "Others" and just don't know it (yet). One of the giveaways was Locke being able to witness the plane crash of Mr. Echo's brother and the drug smugglers. That's how Locke was able to find the plane in season 2 (was it?), from this memory of already witnessing the crash. The voices everyone keeps hearing are their own that are trapped in different planes of time on the island. At least that's what I'm guessing. I do get pissy after each episode like everyone else, but it's a good kind of pissy. I'm still thoroughly entertained with the show. And, I like Fringe as well. There, I said it!

I had a idea regarding time travel and then I read this and it said what I had theorized better than I ever could.

No spoilers just a very good theory

I remember watching the episode "The Long Con" and thinking that time travel was somehow involved.

Then I read in an intereview where the writers said that episode was going to deal with time travel, but they pulled up and didn't want to throw that out yet.

Interesting.

Post Re: LOST
First there were flashbacks, which were great, 'cause you got lots of human backstory on the principles and lots of confusing coincidence-clues. Then, suddenly, there were flash-forwards, which was brilliant as a sudden shift in format, and startling 'cause you not only saw who got off the island but also that it wasn't necessarily a matter of happy endings.

Now we seem to be in flash-all-over-the-place land, or rather, some of the characters themselves are, while we viewers are tossed between "three years ago" and the more-or-less "present," which of course is the future of the former seeming-present. Interesting to see characters who died alive again, or alive again back then or whatever, especially since one fan conspiracy theory was that two of the actors were hastily written out of the narrative due to drunk driving arrests in real life. If Kim returns as a character, that theory will seem even sillier than it does now. I wonder if that Hobbit Spinal Tap guy will return? Probably in Hurley's head if nothing else.

The "inspired in part by the game Myst" element has gone a bit over the top, but all that keeps ya guessing.

I agree that we need to know more about the black smoke monster. Linus' semi-explanation wasn't much of an explanation at all.

The others? Who knows? At some point my guess was that they were sent by whatever agencies set up the Dharma Project to wipe it out, but got lost in the time warps, or ... oh hell I have no idea.

What about Michael and his kid? That story line is one of the choppiest of them all. I wonder if it'll resolve? Will anything?

The whole thing has become so twisted (with no end to new twists) that I've sort of given up on trying to figure it all out, and am just passively along for the ride. Trying to figure out where things are going is an exercise in frustration and futility, because the writers aren't about to let you do that.

At least I'm still enjoying the ride.

Thanks for bringing this up. Interesting how the characters on the island are still roaming around in so-called real time while the others off the island are three years in the future yet it all seems to be coinciding at the same so-called time. Did that just get confusing or was it just me... lol
