In regards to the idea that LOST would make a better movie than a TV show I have to completely disagree. This was something I started thinking about during the 24 premier the other week. LOST and 24 are way too big to be made into a movie. Typically we think of movies at the top of the entertainment pyramid, with TV being inferior or of lesser value. However, I think that LOST and 24 are two examples of TV doing something that film could never do. If you were to condense a season of 24, or the entire 6 (?) seasons of LOST into a 2 hour movie it wouldn't resemble the TV series at all - it'd be just another movie with a couple of plot shifts.
Also, from what I've read the writers know exactly how the series ends and what's going to happen between now and then. I think Season 3 (or was it 4?) was weaker because the writers didn't have an end date set, but once they renewed the contract with a firm end date they were able to get the story back on track and flesh out the rest of the episodes and seasons.
LOST is definitely the most ambitious TV show I've ever seen. I'm not looking forward to it ending.
