 Re: bad brains documentary trailer
I used to love Bad Brains...now, I wish they just stop!
The last few shows where I saw with them, they sucked so bad that people were booing! Sorry...I meant HR sucked...he just stood there on stage with his hands in his pockets and barely singing, and obviously didn't give a crap. In between songs, he would just babble on and on for like 5 minutes before starting the next song. The music was tight, but that just made my annoyance so much worse.
I would rather they bring back Isreal Joseph I or even Chuck Mosely.

 Re: bad brains documentary trailer
I remember reading that Lil Jon was into skating and punk rock growing up, but got into rap when he went to college (maybe high school, I forget).
As for HR, do you think it's an act, drugs, or just mental problems? I know some people think it's him just screwing with everyone, but I think that may be a bit too optimistic. I think the only reason they keep him in the band is because they go back so far and because it's probably easier/more lucrative having the "original" lineup. Of course, it's only a matter of time before fans and promoters get tired of HR doing shows wearing sheets, motorcycle helmets, etc.

 Re: bad brains documentary trailer
HR has mental problems - in all seriousness. I forget the precise diagnosis but he's messed up and it's been very frustrating for the rest of the band because he's left them many times without notice.
When I was living in Colorado several years ago, the BB did a warm up show in Boulder prior to playing at the winter X-games, i think. I was able to get back stage and get all the band members to sign some slabs for me. The rest of the band was really cool but I remember HR's body langauge and facial expressions looked like someone who was suffering from mental illness. It was actually a little scary because he seemed so unstable/volatile in contrast to his blissed-out stage persona a little earlier.

 Re: bad brains documentary trailer
yes,,i think HR does have some sort of mental problems..
it has been sort of common knowledge for some time..
when i lived on 10th street in nyc in the early 90s,,i would see him walking down the street pretty often,,mumbling to himself & looking sort of menacing...
i saw them play a couple years ago here in london & was surprised how tight they played (the tempo was slower on all songs but they were good)...mind that HR stood completely still the entire gig with a sheet over his head in prayer stance,,but he sounded on-point
i am interested to see the documentary...
btw,,,lil john was a sponsered amatuer skater years before the crunk thing (i think he was on the santa cruz team)...so,,no surprise that he listens to bad brains...

 Re: bad brains documentary trailer
a few years ago they played a couple shows for cbgbs as a benefit or something... leeway opened and were awesome, bad brains sounded tight as hell but JJ couldn't keep up with them.

 Re: bad brains documentary trailer
man, even if leeway just played 'rise and fall/mark of the squealer' it would probably be the best show ever.
