Post goddamn smelly vinyl..
I think this has been discussed before but I'm so pissed right now because I bought a figure from someone on ebay and stinks like some sort of f^#*ing scented candle. If I put it with my other figs it's going to perform attrition and infect them all.

I sent the seller a message informing them of this but don't expect much in response.

I was thinking as a last resort I could spray it with some sort of clear coat but I really don't want to do that.

Or just do a custom but when you pay over $100 it kind hurts to do that.

I can't imagine how to get the smell OUT. If you dont mind disclosing what it is, some details on hte toy in question may help narrow down suggestions. If it were hard and vintage, I'd be less likely to suggest something rough and harsh compared to a newer softer release. Even then, all I can imagine doing is boxing/bagging it up with an odor absorbing material. I can't recall the brand of odor absorber we used in our garage when it flooded and had mildew :( but it worked. Activated carbon also sometimes does wonders, but I'm not sure if just having it in the same enclosed space would do the trick :?

Hmm...I've gotten one smelling of cigarettes. A gentle soap wash (ivory) and general airing out near an open window helped get rid of the smell.

If it's a rare figure I don't recommend washing at all but airing it out for a while before putting it with the rest of your vinyl might help.

Okay well I'm putting it in a heavy duty ziplock bag now with a baking soda box meant to go in a refrig. I'll give it a week in there and see how it does. It's not a vintage piece but I paid over $150 for it and value is right around that so I expected it to be minty mint.

Thx.

Yeah if that doesn't work, the soap has gotten rid of sticky vinyl for me so it might work

Yeah I second the idea of a good soap scrub. It has saved many a flea market pick up.
