The Mook is good but I miss the old format S7 mags. The mook just seems like all old news by the time you get it. Anybody else?

Yes, I'm a somewhat reformed magazine junkie...but also trying not to wet my pants over the thought of Mook II: Son of Mook

yes, for sure. my wife and I are both suckers for magazines. internets and mooks are no substitution for piles of brightly colored circulars full of info and pics. love magazines.

I love magazines. I get Hyper Hobby, Uchusen, Hobby Japan, Kai-zine, anything I can find. I love looking threw them and daydreaming about shit I can't afford.

I absolutely love them and miss the SHIT out of the old crazy Super 7 store with the flashing gifs. The only thing I dont miss from the mags is the western toy ads haha.

I miss the mag big time. Way too long between mooks. The magazine format can more timely address and reflect what's going on in the collecting world at different moments in time.

The mook was a "pretty" package but the layout was distracting - it seemed to exalt artiness over clear presentation which the magazine format did very nicely.

I know there are only so many hours in the day for Flynn & Co., but what would be great would be to have a magazine that focuses in on current & specfic things, like stories on new manufacturers, overseas shops, sculptors, book reviews, etc. And then the Mook could be more reference, toy 'bible' stuff (like the toy coverage in the 1st mook.) Maybe the magazine could be a smaller, less expensive fanzine or Kai-zine type format & the slick 'production value' could be saved for the mooks.

That's probably asking alot, though.

(Jeez, next I will be wanting Brian to come over & do my dishes.)

Wasn't the mags partly run by Max Toy previously? If so he should work on it again.

How about a mail-in exclusive in the next mook? ;P

I miss all of the text and the weird columns by various peoples. I think Take-Shit's Garbage Digger was my general favorite.

@Kidclam- Mark used to work at S7 prior to Max Toy.

I love the mook format. It's nice but I would gladly sacrifice that for a bimonthly magazine.

The magazines had some great and informative articles and whenever I make it to the shop..I try to pick up ones I don't have. Hopefully 2009 we'll see another mook.

(Last I heard it was something about villians and heroes..could be wrong though)

Man do I miss the zine. Just when I was getting hungry BAM there it was in the mail. The mook is great and I cant wait for the next, but man do I wish there was more paper on a regular basis.

I do remember Brian addressing this though and I think the mook format is limited.

I know its a lot of work and I believe at this point in his career Brian is on a whole other level with his other business. Him and co. doing anything toy wise is just for us diehards and I appreciate it.

But the magazine was a big part of my influence on my collecting habits. A zine with less about new releases but more about content would rule. Articles like pusheads or my favorite, the Take Shit article are the best reading for me ever.

Time will tell I suppose.

Fuck Juxtapoze :)

I would gladly pay $15 to $20 four times a year for a more standard sized mook (squarebound, magazine size, cardstock cover, 150-200 pages with ads). I know I've seen some talk on here about the next mook being a little different. Hopefully we'll get the details soon.

I think the problem w/ magazines is the fact that anything in it would be outdated by the time it comes out.
This is why we have the internet.
I do have to agree that there were awesome articles in the old issues.
But I think also most news pertaining to our hobby originate in Japan.
There are enough blogs and information out there now that if you do a little search or even ask, you'd find what you're looking for.
What I'd like to see is someone translate the Kai-Zine.
And also new scans from Hyper Hobby.

Actually, Mark and Brian co-founded Super 7.
I agree with ElvisFromHell. Too much artsy. It was really difficult to use as a reference let alone enjoy the toys themselves, but the layout was fantastic.

I thought the layout was too corporate. Just reminded me of an annual report design... with Nike type style typography. Maybe Hybrid Design have been doing too many of those clients?

What I liked about the magazine was that it felt nerdy, raw and cool in a not cool way. The Mook just says how cool it is to collect Kaiju...and that is so kidrobot... I felt the Mook was too absorbed in its' own art direction and lost the big picture. I react this way because of the wait for this issue and well I had high expectations.

I use to buy HH every issue, but the yen makes it too pricey now. I would have gladly scanned them and uploaded the images.
Now we have some Jp agents doing that at times which is nice.

I actually need to replace issue 15, mine was damaged in my last move!

It doesn't appear to be in the back issues section of the website. :?:

If this is a problem, it is only accentuated by the Mook...

Mook is nice for what it is, but I enjoyed the magazine a lot more.

Probably will bite the bullet and buy Mooks in the future, but would subscribe to the magazine without hesitation.

I snag mine off www.hlj.com , or through a good comic shop. Diamond Comic Distributors carry Hobby Japan. I have to make sure I have a big enough order cause shipping is stupid for just a magazine online. Kai-zine of course you get through kaiju-taro. Those lucky enough to have a kinokuniya bookstore nearby probably get off easier.
