Post Re: The State of the forum
i haven't bought something in over 6 months now, mainly because i got burnt out and i'm broke/saving to move overseas. saying that, even though i have avoided the base/rxh boards for a while (to avoid temptation!) its still a great place to post. i have never really had any problems.

The KR/Fresh Meat bashing doesn't seem as fun or as clever as it used to be, but maybe that's just me. Also the Gargamel forum is getting a little lonely.

Wasn't around that far back but Glenn is right and this goes pretty much for most Forums. It's all a big cycle, the best thing to do is fall back to the main reason you ended up here which is the toys. Do this and you pretty much automatically ignore the bungholes that get on yer nerves.
Don't sweat the small stuff, you'll live longer.

i like the hype, because most of the stuff i collect or have been hunting is far from involved with the hype. therefore, people tend to drop the stuff i'm looking for pretty damn cheap to finance their hype spending. it would be nice to have discussions on stuff other than the hyped stuff though, so i guess that's the drawback to it all...

that is probably because all the kr fresh meat are basically the same clone. you can only bash people of a certain nature the same way so many times before it gets old. the new angle used in that for sale thread for the squirm flynn hp is a refreshing change. it's more fun humor than straight up "get the hell out of here" style bashing....not saying that is person is a kr clone, but the no.ob angle all the same....

Hey also: What's with removing the pictures at the end of the sale and saying things like "sale is over" or "done" or whatever? I enjoy seeing what things went for and/or the deals I missed out on

Is it to somehow to hide the price (whether it be absurdly high or an absolute steal) from everyone else?

WHAT'S WITH THAT?

seriously! i miss seeing what happens in sales threads. its useful to be able to keep a vague mental tally of what is being sold and at what price range.

as for the state of the board, i think the general attitude has evolved a little bit over the last few years, but not in a dramatic way. there are a lot more people now, and that seems to magnify everything, good and bad.

its sort of like getting a gigantic sandwhich or burger with that pile of lettuce, tomato and onion on the side. i love everything about it except the big piece of lettuce, which i dont care for at all, but ill just leave it off, rather than calling the server a douchebag about it. the rest of the sandwhich will be better without freaking out over the lettuce.

I think there needs to be a minimum post count with a minimum number of words per post in order to be able to post in the Wanted section.
First posts in the Wanted are as bad as "+1" or emote only posts. Honestly...."what are you...a mongoloid?" (sorry, that reference might be a bit too obscure)

Post Re: The State of the forum
If you have a bunch of people, even in a virtual world or forum, you're going to have conflict at times. It's inevitable. This place looks like an oasis compared to some of the political and religious forums that I visit. I occasionally snipe at people or toy lines but hopefully nothing seen as too over the top or ugly. I think I called someone a Bemon Killer the other day but that was just having fun. Ganging up on an individual is kinda over the top I think.

All of the hype and crazy money is getting obnoxious if you ask me. Like others mention downthread, I've been picking up some great stuff in BST cause people are constantly rotating their inventory. Some amazing stuff that might not be the flavor of the week while others I FART A LOT and moan about the latest thing.

Someone I respect once described it as alot of collections are kind of hollow. Only meaningful to other members. If you're chasing and collecting endless colourways of whatever, what happens when you get offline and leave your e-pals? Are you really happy with what you have or are you collecting/following it for some other reason?

Not to be an elitist, I think some people have no idea how to evaluate or determine what they like or what to collect. So they follow the hype and create even more hype. If you don't know what you really like or what works or doesn't work, its probably easiest and safest to follow the hype herd.

Whether it be the economy or the fickle nature of hype-induced collectors, I've gotten some sweet deals in the bst lately. You could say that I'm benefiting from this malaise you're hinting on...

Not to sound elitist or anything, but I think the cult like nature of this board makes newcomers overzealous to be a part of the crowd so they spend crazy money in a months time for an insta-collection to post here for e-props. Most of the time their collections aren't even that interesting to look at.

I always enjoy seeing collections that reflect years of searching and balancing pieces...that isn't around here much these days...in fact I wouldn't even use the term "collection" for most of these displays...it's more like a revolving inventory.

You hurt my feelings cause you said the Toygraph Troopers that I collect totally sucked. Not.

But seriously, I agree with all of this. The mad money, the insta-collections for e-props. And definitely alot of revolving inventory which I don't understand. Maybe some day I'll lift the curtains off my little collection at some stage. I'm more curious about the collections that run silent and deep (like the vintage guys) than seeing four threads of showoff pics of the latest hype.

The bemon killer was me, but we have talked many times in PM and what not and I know your just kidding and all. Its just that others here really are douches.

I think the board is the same as always. Some really cool people some bad , some really great toys some bad. Hype, greed, secrecy blah blah....

After years of collecting all kinds of things this board has been the one place that I have found some really cool people with great ideas, interests and all. The toys are the glue :)

Nope...it's actually a filipino comedian. I don't remember it in Pulp Fiction.

And it's all about balance too.

Less spit in your sandwich that way for sure...one could apply the same philosophy to this board, especially if you happen to be a tree-hugging pacifist hippie meatbag---but the TRUE collectors reject the big piece of salad with much vehement derision of the server, just to keep everyone in place.

I've been reading daily for some time and while I do not know everyone as well as I should for having been around this long, I have an idea of who people are and where they're coming from and what gets them excited, toy-wise. It's pretty much the same as it has been except there is a bit less of that wide-eyed wonder, because "new" is not always different. The really different and unusual things attract a bunch of attention, good and bad, and there is no getting around it. One of the nice things about this place is that there are genuinely interesting people that are passionate about their interests---and passionate interest can cause heated debate. It often makes for great reading and the occasional dose of humor!

I visit a couple of other forums that are for collectors of other things that people get passionate about and the same stuff happens there too---everyone has an opinion and the internet makes them sooo easy to share!

Easy rule of thumb: maintain focus and balance with the real world, and don't screw over a fellow skullbrainer...

Yep. Along with the lame posts such as "This slays!" zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
If you like something, maybe try and verbalize what you like about it or compare contrast it to something else.

or "I'd totally buy this but I don't have any money" zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
No shit Sherlock. I could say this about so many things here and elsewhere.

And post whores should realize that no one is impressed by your post count or the way you flood the boards.
If anything is just annoying.

This just might be the most relevant post ever to me, IMO, because it sums up so many of my feelings in so few words. Well done.
