I have been waiting for some time for someone to try to end Wizard World being the sole "big" convention in Chicago. After going to G-Fest last year for the first time, a friend and I agreed that this year we would just go to that and probably skip WW. Hopefully some toy companies will be represented.

I passed through this afternoon and there's some really great stuff on display. Well worth checking out!!

But at the Messe in Chiba, not Big Site. Takes a long time to get there from Tokyo and walk to the site. Not clear yet what sort of dealer turn out there will be.

no reason to think it won't be full on. most of the dealers drive to the shows.

The ones I've spoken with aren't sure if they'll attend. I think people are waiting to see how this will go - track the snowball and all that....

About the venue, of course space is a premium in Tokyo, but Chiba is quite a distance, so getting 40-50,000 people to head out (as well as overcoming the bad karma of the escalator incident) could be tough. I guess it's all going to boil down to the list of attendees and pent up demand for a big show. Lower admission prices would also help offset transport costs to and from the Messe.

Well, one good thing about the venue is there's plenty of eatin', drinkin', and shoppin' nearby, so you really can make a day + night of it.

It's only half an hour from Tokyo by train. Lots of big events are held there, including Super Sonic, Tokyo Game show, Tokyo Motor show. I'll still be going (not that I myself will be pulling in a huge crowd).

Yeah I know, but it's not the same (time or price wise) as a quick subway ride to the Big Site. Not sure if those added costs (coupled with the deep recession and toy market crash) will deter the 40K strong WF faithful.

Anyway, hopefully things will come together. There's been an interesting mix of smaller events this year, but there's nothing quite like the spectacle of WF!

I may not be going - but thats cause I am planning to hit San Diego.
