Oh well. It's the risk he's taken to take his art to the streets. Bound to happen one day. It's happen to many.

Getting arrested (again) will earn him even more point in the mall crowd.

 Re: Shepard Fairey arrested
i think Shep is a really nice guy in person, but over all the whole stolen images as his own thing is old and I think the new AP claim is funny and awesome as for his arrest He takes the risk. And its sends a warning out to all the delinquent losers with sharpies. That said he will only parlay it into more tshirt sales at the buckle.

backtrack wrote: How often do people whinge when hollywood actors get off for a whole variety of offences? Is this somehow different because he is related to a "subculture"? It's different because the actors typically put lives in danger due to excess use of drugs/alcohol, or physically abuse people, or cause major property damage. SF merely puts up pictures in a public arena. Huge difference there - SF isn't hurting anyone, and the "property damage" is minimal and is confined to public spaces (despite the buildings being privately owned, the exterior walls of downtown buildings have got to be considered public).

 Re: Shepard Fairey arrested
All commentary on his 'art' aside, 3 years in prison for these offenses is ludicrous.

Hey it's like having a Crocodile Hunter lifestyle, you fuck with snakes and lizards enough times and you'll get your ass bit sooner or later. Just better make sure you don't mess with a stingray or something.

 Re: Shepard Fairey arrested
You know all things considered, I just realized that Bernie Madoff who screwed over thousands of people and ruined the lives of others is living comfortably at home under "house arrest." And bankers are complaining they can’t live with a $500,000 salary cap based on money the government is giving them because they screwed up... And ruined peoples lives as well.
So all style/taste issues aside, street artists do exactly what in comparison to get locked up? Not to mention some poor kids get locked up because they smoke weed on a stoop and bother nobody?

Or get stung by a freakin' stingray, lets be honest NOBODY saw that coming. Also anybody watch Whale Wars? I am surprised the japanese fleet hasn't named a ship the stingray to battle the steve irwin crew yet. As for the art thing, how do they know for a fact he put up the pieces in question? If they caught him in the act they would have arrested him on the spot when it happened wouldn't they? If he started getting charged for every single obey sticker or poster up in the world he would be pretty screwed, at the very least in lawyer fees and wasted time. If someone paints a Star Wars character on a wall illegally they don't arrest George Lucas since he created the characters. Seems pretty ridiculous, even though he did most likely do it, without him admitting it though it just doesn't seem like it would stick.

 Re: Shepard Fairey arrested
doesnt it cost like 50G's or more to keep someone in jail for a year? i cant believe we waste so much tax money on such ridiculous "crimes". like NT said hes not actually hurting anyone here. violent crimes are one thing but shit like this is just dumb to me. i think a better idea would be to make these guys pay for violent criminals to stay in jail hahaha! now theres punishment. ...then again this is a whole other discussion.
