lulubell wrote: I took a picture today too................... That's awesome. I have not really wrapped my mind around what RxH is doing right now. I'm not sure I exactly understand. It seems to me as if pieces are either readily available or you don't even see them or hear about them at all. It seems like for us loyal overseas customers who buy a lot of what Mori releases it seems like we should get at least a couple of these secret releases stateside. And if not, he should try to make a few where the run size is in between the mass/made to order releases and these pieces that are released that we can't even talk about.

Re: sometimes new threads are GOOD...
After I had to sell off like, 90% of my RxH a year back I was never able to get back into the swing of it. It was like "yeah, I'll hunt these down again some day" but the desire just died. I dunno what it was, I wanted and liked the toys, but I'd start thinking about what I had and the work it took to get and I just shied away. I mean, it's not the challenge the turned me off, just the prospect of going backwords I guess?
Anyway, fuck all that crap, the newer release dropping lately have TOTALLY re-fueled me. Some of these look great, and that newm, angry Mutant? WTF? My poop just pooped! Hard to get or not, I'm really liking what Mori's been doing lately.

I hope you, and others, don't take my comments the wrong way Jeff. i do think it's cool that other folks like collecting, and like a lot of stuff, interest changes and wanes (a lot of things change in my collection). I just like that the old feel of rxh collecting seems to be back with some of these current releases, ie scrambling to get that new milky evil... i like hunting for toys that i want. that's half the fun.

i like hunting for toys that i want. that's half the fun. Nope, I didn't take any. My collection sale was one of the earlier ones when they were at least worth retail I agree, I like the hunt. I think I just needed a big RxH break after collecting it 75-80% of the time vs. other stuff than having to lose most of what I had. I like a good "not hard to get" figure now and than too, but who can deny the fun of the hunt?

Re: sometimes new threads are GOOD...
Lets just hope that the newer stuff is more free spray and things will be right back on track 100%, well to me at least.
I think that Mori is finding his way for an equal balance. Bigger easier to get releases for the collector who may buy on a whim if they see it. And the harder to find piece for the collector who will take the time to hunt for awhile to get it. Same goes for paint app. Some really like the clean masked look. Some like a little of both. Some (like me) prefer the older style where only the eyes where masked.
In todays collecting market it must be hard to keep up with trends. Back when all he had to sell was a few at the local show to keep making toys, must be totally different from now that he has to sell many figures to keep the shop open.
And I think some of the prices in the aftermarket where blown out of proportion for a few. Now they have sank, at some point like SB they will even out.
2008 was his first year, and I'm sure he has learned a lot. I'm sure 2009 will be great. The hype machine has died, and now its time to see the real supporters.

this pic kills me. i think it's only mandatory from now on that you must have a very excited expression when you're posing with unseen RxH stuff

That's not fun. But then there was some good deals for me on this board. That's always awesome, but it's not typical. 2008 was a good time for me because 99% of what I wanted in the way of new releases I got at retail. It's a great feeling all around. no hype, no flips, no bull. just collecting and enjoying your figures--and having the money for the next run. that's just me. different strokes.

Re: sometimes new threads are GOOD...
datadub wrote: interesting that some people are so into technique as preference over sculpt, color or even basic coolness. Personally I tend to judge each piece on its own merits. Some color ways just really push my buttons, others rub me the wrong way; sometimes new techniques fall flat, other times they amaze. Sometimes simple is best, sometimes its bland, sometimes complex is just busy yet other times it forms a beautiful chaos. but thats just me. When I wrote that list, I made the decision based on the last 3 years of releases and this is the general consensus of what I like for RxH. I really think customs come into play in every toy line, brand or whatever. One of the most appealing things about Gargamel is the customs and they don't condone play from fans. What Paul Kaiju, Koji, Rich and Joel create in customs make me like a certain toy even more so I don't see anything bad about it. In fact some customs (not just RxH) supersedes any commercial releases. I don't think I need to say I respect Mori's decisions about customs, its his brand whatever. I just love customs enough since it adds another level to my collecting. The ones that "push my buttons" you won't see it in my collection even on a favorite sculpt and usually reflect that list of what I prefer in the type of spray.

Re: sometimes new threads are GOOD...
Seems a pretty huge adjustment going on, which is excellent - same thing Secret Base las year to recapture that spark. What would be nice is if, after the surprise Shinto sales, Mori could throw a pic up on his site so we know something was released, even if it's already sold out. That way collectors know something's out there to be hunted, and we don't need to worry whether something that just popped up on YJA may be fake, dodgy, etc. Eh? So yeah I dig these small mystery runs - very Ekoda style. But it must be harsh for RxH fans in Tokyo who have to head all the way out to Aoto every day, just in case. Besides the new shinto release style, I hope Mori makes some show appearances this year. It would also be cool if RxH set up a fan club with a point card system and started selling directly to overseas fans. Buy a certain number of toys and get a free limited release figure. Maybe also allow the most diehard supporters a shot at some super limited stuff once in a while, so they can get it at retail instead of paying through the nose on YJA. Seems a good way to reward the overseas collectors who have been the bedrock of the RxH support base. Just a few ideas to add to the pot.

Couldn't those fans rest on Mon & Tues? andy wrote: It would also be cool if RxH set up a fan club with a point card system and started selling directly to overseas fans. What would be cool is if people just dug the releases, or passed on them and let the man run his business however he feels like it.
