News has been sparse here since shit went down last weekend,
but I understand people have been allowed to return to their homes now.

Needless to say, I/we hope all Skullbrainers are safe & well ...

I know U.S.ers are legendarily poor at geography, but c'mon, give us some credit.

Otherwise, I echo the sentiments above- I know there are a few Autralian 'brainers here.

Both of them begin and end with "A", so they are pretty much the same...

Seriously though, Australia has been hit hard with heat and drought and now fire...I also hope all the 'brainers down under are okay.

Crazy times down here.

http://www.smh.com.au/interactive/2009/national/darkestday/

Check the map for an idea of the amount of fires.
As of yesterday 15 fires were still burning.

Floods in the north, fires in the south. :?
Australia is in mourning.

Sad news indeed. I haven't been back for 4 years. Going back in 2 weeks time.

I like that the rescue efforts with the floods were hampered by crocodiles.

Yeah and don't forget the snakes.

Makes me sick to think they were investigating for the possibility of arson too.

Hope all is well for the Aussie brainers.

Fortunately I live in Sydney and we haven't had bad fires around my area since 2001 when fires were quite literally almost on our door step.

Always a scary day when you're told you must prepare for evacuation and have to box up as much of your life as you can because you might come back to nothing.

What is heart warming about this tragedy is the way the whole nation is coming together to raise money for the relief of those affected.

Watch the video until around the 2:30 mark when the fire front goes roaring past.
