Post SPACE GIANTS goldar / Toshiro Mifune
I was going through my stuff and I came across these. I am not sure if they are fully legit releases, but they are super nice. Does anyone recognize them or have info?

I got the Space Giants Goldar from Astro Zombies at a show in Orlando in... 2000? Sheesh, something like that! I never got around to building / gluing on the rubbery suit. Yikes!

I forget where I got this one. It's Toshiro Mifune. It is crazy poseable, with metal swords, extra accessories, sandals, samurai gear in general. Probably around he same time as the one above, give or take. I used to have it set up, but I had to put it away when the kids started walking around and getting into everything.

I know this might not be the right forum to post this, but I just wasn't sure. Anyone?

The Goldar is from Romando if I remember correctly, and the Toshiro Mifune/Yojimbo is by Alfrex. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Also, these are totally legit and great toys.

I have the Jubei Yagyu/Sonny Chiba figure ;). Totally awesome 12" figure. That Toshiro Mifune figure is also pretty awesome.

Thanks guys! The quality is so high that I assumed they were low-run and legit, but I also recall around the same time there were some similar Blade Runner toys that were maybe a little less than licensed. If I recall, there was a whole series of the Samurai... and maybe even a seven samurai set (which was probably $$$). Super cool details.

As you can guess, I got a bunch of these sorts of toys (Medicom, etc) and then dropped out for a few years. Totally missing the birth of SB, BH, etc. So close! (Although my wife is no doubt relieved, in hindsight!)

I never got any of the Ryotsu (sp?) toys but those seemed pretty fun at the time.

Anyhow, I am debating the future of these now that I found them. Of course, Like any cool toys, I waver between passing them along to someone more specialized in their collecting... and harboring the desire to get a ton more, somehow, with money from space, haha! A $700 vet bill will do that, haha, yikes!!

I just googled that. HOLY FREAKING CRAP. I am: 1.) an ignorant doofus and 2.) I have one of these and 3.) what the hell do I do now. Do these REALLY go for $1,000+? I am flabergasted.

I remember the Deckerd 12" but I can't remember the maker. Wasn't it marketed as Android Hunter? or something like that - I am pretty sure it was unlicensed. There was also a Malcolm McDowell Alex from Clockwork Orange also not legit.

As for the 7 Samurai sets? Yep - same company as Toshiro - Alfrex. They were I believe around $1200 to $1400 new. Amazing set of figures - each fully detailed and decked out in the appropriate dress and weaponry. Came in a BIG fold out box.

The Goldar body looks like one of the Marmit ones. I have a Marmit Ultra 7 with the same white nude body.

The Goldar i believe was from Marmit ? I could be wrong as well but i have the two Spectreman figures from that particular line.. super action heroes. The Goldar always seems to fetch for a large amount of dough.

I collect Alfrex Jidaigeki series figures.

The Mifune Yojimbo/Sanjuro figure is one of the most valuable and most sought after. In better economic times, it would come very close to taking care of that vet bill all on it's own.

Well I know that a certain someone is attempting to sell one for that price.
But I dont think anyone is buying. I remember it being expensive to begin with when it first came out.

Just a quick note on licensing and checking whether or not something is licensed: see the little round stickers on the bottom right corner of the Goldar box? Its hard to see in the picture, but I'm guessing those are the licensing stickers from the original copyright holder. Many of the larger Japanese movie/entertainment production companies (Tsuburaya, Toho, Daiei, etc) will have their own licensing stickers that are placed on the packages to show if they are official or not. Not a foolproof test, but its better than nothing.

Also, I'm not sure about in the US but over here those "not-quite-licensed" Blade Runner and Clockwork Orange figures still go for a very high price. I saw the Alex figure at Mandarake for around $400 a couple months back (if memory serves), and it didn't last too long.

I totally forgot about Marmit making these things, I think you are right.

Wow. It would be nice to unload these for those prices, haha... Thanks, recession! Maybe Obama can make it happen? Ha. I've just had these around for 10 years or whatnot. The Goldar was in a cabinet, hidden away this whole time... I never had time to put it together... and then forgot about it. Super nice though. I wonder what 2009 would bring in for them. Al this talk makes me want to keep them, but I need to keep my resolve... and then NOT spend it on OTHER toys, ouch!
