If it wasn't for slow motion that movie woulda been 7 minutes and 30 seconds long. I could tell the story in 2 sentences. Real men want to die, have big balls, and never compromise. Great! Just my opinion though. I have good friends who swear by it.

the slow motion shit is the thing I'm most worried about when this movie drops.

this book is a big deal to me...so I have to separate the two as much as possible. I'm looking at it as an homage...because the book is perfect.

just the little tweaks that we've seen already are problematic. but it could be ok...maybe...sorta.

I agree that it would have been better served as a series on HBO or the like. I think they're almost at a place where they could have pulled it off. even if the runtime is the 3 hour cut it was supposed to be it's not even going to contain half of the shit in the book.

one last disturbing thing: the merchandising is already way over the top. virgin megastore has a buttload of shit they're pushing. and seeing little kids dressed up like Rorschach this halloween doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

New trailer?

Link?

I saw it during the Daytona 500. They had a special "sneek preview". I have no idea if this trailer has been shone before. It was new to me. It def look like they reproduced some of the images from the book, like the Comedian going through the window.

I know the comic is influential and dear to many of us but you have to let it go. The minute the movie got okay'd, you have to expect tons of merchandise etc. It's got like 3 major studios invested in it and you can believe they are looking to make it a cashcow.

As long as their is no broadway musical...I'll be content.

Warner Bros. plans on releasing about a dozen 22 to 26 minute webisodes to help make the complex story of Watchmen easier for the uninitiated to digest.A Digital Graphic Novel, will be less like a slide show of original comic panels and more of the comic book “brought to life” with rudimentary animation techniques. The teaser is simply a conglomeration of different scenes from the comic book given motion and set to dramatic orchestral music. In order to animate the comic, the production team has apparently dissected the elements from each panel that they wanted to move — such as a cloud or a character — and animated it in front of a restored or “filled in” background.

Post Re: Watchmen
i think i'll be heading to the theater after work to watch this at midnight.

i'm not worried about the film being good or bad. comic books never transfer to screen well. so with knowing that, i will be watching this movie as a movie, and enjoying it. not picking it apart and deciding how true to moore it is. i'm starting to view comic movies as retellings, like they do with origin stories in comics. I mean, a lot of the comic community loved the stuff Marvel did with Ultimate Spider-Man, which updated and changed a bunch of spider-mans origin story, but if a movie were to try this, people go ape shit.

the one thing that is irritating me is all of this publicizing of watchmen by saying it is "based on the graphic novel." i hate this comic book/graphic novel word play shit. it was a 12-issue maxi-series, and 12 periodically released issues does not translate into a graphic novel imo. they act as if using the term "comic book" it dumbs it up and makes it for kids....

I agree. I think graphic novel has a different connotation in most people's mind than comics. But there is another reason that they use the word.

Graphic novel marketable, makes the thing a commodity. Comic book, not marketable, a collectors item.

You say graphic novel someone can go to the store and buy it, and pay for the movie's production. Comic book's have to be found and purchased from individuals and yield no money to those who produce the movie.

"Graphic Novel" is for "Pretentious Douche's Who Don't Want to Admit They Read Comics" or at least that's what it seems like to me.

Well, according to our local paper, Hayder did call up Moore and he replied kindly,
"The book was mine and the movie yours."
Maybe I'll approach it the same way.

Also, Gibbons loved the movie owl ship, said it should be in his backyard.

I saw this yesterday. Surprisingly quiet in Australia for this one. The area I'm in are looking more forward to Fast & Furious than Watchmen..

I give it 6 or 7 out of 10. But I'm not familiar with the original source material. I could never sit down and read it.

He cut it due to running time apparently. It will be on the DVD though according to Snyder.

I went to a midnight showing tonight. I have not read the gn but went with two friends who love it. Most of the criticism I had related to the plot, and according to my friends it was either when things were being altered or way underdeveloped compared to the source. A longer cut would have been welcome. There were definitely a few moments where I just thought, "Huh?" but it was well paced and enjoyable. My friends also mentioned there was supposed to be a giant squid, and I would have been happy to see one as the ending was one of the weaker points. It also had an unexpected penis:boob ratio. 7/10

Good film. People will always find something to dislike (what else is new). It's not the comic, but a film adaptation. Go into it with that in mind, and you'll enjoy it.
