 Madballs
So my wife dragged me out shopping today. As we pull into the Bed Bath & Beyond parking lot, I notice a big sale display on the sidewalk in front of the store. What do I find in this bargain bin full of foot massagers and spatulas? Madballs. Lots of them. The entire 2nd series. For $2.99 ea. Who would have ever thought? Sometimes you just find the weirdest shit in the most unlikely places.

Awesome score. Might have to stop by BB&B tomorrow. If they're even still open locally.

Re: You find things in the strangest places
I really like the fact that these re-issues have actually stayed pretty faithful to the original designs. Here's a GIS pic of some of the original Madballs: They definitely cleaned the designs up a little, especially on Wolf-Breath (center) and Screamin' Meemie (the baseball) and improved the paint, but they still look a lot like the mid-80's toys. Still soft squishy foam, and still feel just like I remember them. 2nd series re-issues:

Re: You find things in the strangest places
I posted this a long time ago.... The original creator of Madballs and I used to be studio mates and both also worked for American Greetings in Cleveland for quite a while. He painted the below piece about 4 years ago for my son's birthday...

WOW Ralph. Just wow. Incredibly cool that you got to share creative space with the MB creator, but it's just out of this world to have something like that. What an insanely cool piece! Ya lucky dog!

Re: You find things in the strangest places
These are everywhere. I was buying cold medicine this weekend at walgreens and saw the same "clearance" sale going on there.
Better grab them now, They are obviously not as popular the 2nd time around. Maybe if they made a Madballs for PS3 kids would care.

Re: You find things in the strangest places
I've been picking the 2nd series at random places. Just got another one last night at Walgreens for $1.50!

Unfortunately they only had the "Sick" Series; you squeeze them and various unpleasant things pop out. I see them more often than I do the original plain foam ones. And yeah, kids don't know what good toys are anymore... not that I don't typically feel like toys are wasted on children anyway. I remember my teachers in grade school getting really bent out of shape about three "distractions": M.U.S.C.L.E. Men, GPK Cards and Madballs. They were everywhere, all the kids had them. Madballs were just more likely to go airborne during class.

Re: You find things in the strangest places
Have they redone the bodies as well? I've seen a few of the old ones online for sale but have seen the latest versions.

Re: You find things in the strangest places
Nothing about reproducing the head popping bodies yet. I wouldn't bet on it either, unfortunately. Here's a pic I found of the upcoming 3rd series to be released though: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_iJ1FFApl60s/S ... eries3.jpgAnd the website: http://www.madballs.com/home.action

I didn't buy any, but I might pick up a few this week if I'm out. I'll take some shots of them for you if I do. I think they were more of a hollow rubber ball with various gross faces on them rather than a solid foam ball like the actual Madballs. silver_lining_man wrote: you can't go wrong with picking up a bunch of mutant bodiless heads now and again. i still need to find the mummy dude and the football player. hitting up walgreens the next time i pass one! don't want to wait until they are nowhere to be found.... I found almost the entire 1st series set at Wal-Mart this weekend, as well as lots of 2nd series balls. You might try there too.

i tried BBB, but i didnt see any madballs there. i never found series 2, so i'll have to check another BBB.

 Re: Madballs
I hope series 3 comes out; with 2 being so hard to find. There was supposed to be a Madballs video game for Xbox live this year- we'll see.
