normally, i would agree with you on this.

for me, i'm never going to spend the huge money on the big companions, so i might as well have the little ones.

there probably are a ton of them though. i heard of one dude buying up a lot of a specific color in tokyo when they were released, so i wouldn't go nutso on aftermarket prices.

I think the 5YL and Chum just have a great, modern look - if I had to sell everything those would be the last to go. To carry one around in my pocket keeping my keys together is kinda cool - the narrowness of the figure makes it a much better keychain than the mini crouching zag.
These are definitely something to put to use and not squirrel away as a "collector" item.
(For not being announced prior to release they sold out fairly quickly.)

that's a good point. the design is still iconic of kaws. maybe i'll try and acquire one eventually, since I too will never pony up for the big boys.
I guess making keychains is different than making minis, but it still strikes me as kind of boring.

I think these kind of items such as the key chains mostly appeal to this whole new kaws fanbase that only know the name from recent projects with nike and the clothing line. I doubt many of these people know about the real companions. That's my two cents

I couldn't agree more. There are not going to show up on my shelf, but rather on a keychain etc. To me, they don't add anything to a display and probably will be relatively invisible next to everything else (I stay away from minifigs, as I hate clusterfucks).

In addition to "jazzin'" up a keychain, they'll be sure to make my plain black luggage easier for me to spot/claim from the clusterfuck of plain black luggage on the carousel. Never again shall I be the tool who picks up someone else's bag and has to sheepishly put it back, while all the while looking like a 'tard. Thank you KAWS!!!

Damn, as wack as KAWS' newer stuff has been, I like the keychains. But then they're just scaled down versions of his older, good stuff, so why wouldn't I like them? I won't buy this set, but if I can get a single Pink chum keychain for a few bucks I will...or I'll trade a GID Companion keychain for a Pink Chum keychain.

I've never seen a cell phone fob that had a clip at the top like that, and I have used many.

I don't think I have a key that would work w/ that clip (and if it did, you could only clip one). The clips (and the figures) are tiny. I have the set of companions and was surprised how tiny these were.

Yeah, they for sure aren't keychains - those clasps would never work as a keychain. I just took the clasp off and put a key ring through the eye of the screw sticking out of the head.

Buy one and give it to your companion as a gift.
