I'm thoroughly confused on this issue, because I was checking around on some of the anime resin forums I used to be on and it seems people are ordering gunze sangyo mr.color paints and thinner with no problem from rainbow 10 and other overseas companies. and from my knowledge mr. color is just as hazardous as v-color. maybe KT is just opting out of selling v-color to overseas customers.

Re: No more V-Color from KT???
I guess I answered my own question by checking their faq section
13. Do you ship laquar paints like Gunze(Creos/TAMIYA/Finisher's etc)?
No problem. We will ship laquar paints to anywhere in the world. Laquar paint includes Mr. Surfacer, Mr. Primer, Mr. Thinner and other paints whether it's charged in a bottle or in a spray sol. We can also ship sprays by SAL/AIR/EMS if requested. However please check the local regulations in your country before official order. Please however be noted that because of the nature of being liquid material, there always is a risk of leaking. This is because the expansion rate of the bottle/Jar(glass/plastic) is different from the lid(steel/plastic), and no matter how tight we tighten the lid, risk of leak is existingly inevitable. We usually cover those paint materials with blastic bags separately so that in case of leaks, it will not damage any other items packed together in the same shipment.

Re: No more V-Color from KT???
another alternative is badger air opaque paints. they are even thinner than createx and will blow smooth at 10 psi. i have a small compressor and can't get above 35 psi, so badger is the only stuff i can get to work well. you can snag it at dickblick and there's a decent range of colors
i've never given in to vcolor so i don't realy know what i'm missing. i have chemical issues anyways. i'm interested in decastro's alternative that he's testing

Re: No more V-Color from KT???
So I went to the shop... Grabbed some vallejo air... not as many colors available for the air, but their reg paint can be sprayed, just needs thinning... Oh it's also more expensive than v-color, and you get like .5oz bottles... And thats spray out of the bottle ready...
I also grabbed a few bottles of Gunze Mr. Color which from what I hear is basically almost an identical replacement for V-Color and can be thinned with v-color thinner, or laquer thinner.. Gonna test these tomorrow, or tonight...
That hobby shop has Mr. Color in a million colors, plus the thinner they use which I would liken to v-color thinner, plus it's only $2,50 a jar!!!!! Everyone might wanna check them out for ordering...

Thank you rhino & OO. Yous the man!
Maybe V-color never bothered to submit samples overseas to get certified and the rest did. I do see most of the major brands here except for V-color.

I do see most of the major brands here except for V-color. you're welcome kuru, it was no trouble at all ^_^ D, ya might want to pick up some mr. surfacer before you spray mr. color directly onto vinyl. If I remember correctly, i think it will just peel off of soft vinyl without primer. but other than that I have seen the results you can get with mr. color and they are great. I've only seen anime resin and gundam kits sprayed with it, but you can get some amazing results. so I did some more digging, and found another paint...Freestyle Paints http://www.kitbuildersmagazine.com. supposedly the guys that run the magazine make this paint themselves and it has been used on resin models and vinyl models with no primer.

Re: No more V-Color from KT???
Ok... so my findings... Vallejo Air.... SUCKS BALLS sprays like createx... needs like 50 psi in my HP-C Plus just to spray it... and it's supposed to be airbrush ready... when it does spray, you get mad blowout, and even after it dries it rubs, NOT scratches right off... Gunze Sangyo (Mr. Color).... Prolly closest thing to V-color I've sprayed... Thinned it 50/50 with V-color thinner, and another bottle with regular lacquer thinner.... Both sprayed, dried, and stuck like v-color... actually it was harder to scratch off than V-color... I also put masking tape on it within minutes of spraying it, and left it on for 5 mins... pulled it off, and it stayed put... wouldnt rub or scratch off... I did no surface prep to the SB Ghostfighter I tested it on Soooo... This might be a good replacement for those seeking Vcolor... you dont get as much, but it's a bit cheaper, and shipping is WAY cheaper than EMS.... I suggest hitting up http://michtoy.com they had a ton of colors, and I will be going back up there tomorrow to get all the colors I couldn't get before without mixing

Some of the Mr. Color stick well, some rub. It varies from color to color for some reason.

3x3is9 wrote: Some of the Mr. Color stick well, some rub. It varies from color to color for some reason. Well it appears there is Solvent, and Water based Mr.color... SO I'm guessing thats why? Also I retried the Vallejo... with the needle backed out about 1 mm, it flows well, but takes a while to dry, and still rubs right off...

Re: No more V-Color from KT???
Ok so I just got back from Michtoy... Grabbed some more paint and some mr. thinner...
So far what I've noticed...
ANY thinner seems to work the same... V-Color, Mr.Thinner, and ACE Hardware Lacquer thinner. Dry time is the same, and rub/chip resistance is the same... They said you can even thin it with rubbing alcohol...
They have about 30 more colors of V-color than I've ever seen at KT
Here's the rub...
You only get about half as much... like .25 oz a bottle, so if you want the same quantity it'll cost you $10, compared to $3.60, BUT you won't be paying all that much for EMS shipping... Plus if you become a preferred member at michtoy.com you get 10% off...
They have plenty of colors in stock, so maybe give it a try... IMO it works as well at V-color, and actually seems MORE chip and rub resistant... It was hard to scrap off with my nail on an ghostfighter head that was untreated...
Michtoy also knows of our probem, so if you give them a call they should be able to answer any quetions... These guys are painters too...

toybotstudios wrote: this is that Gunze Sangyo stuff? Yes sir... and actually my measurments were a bit off... Bottles are .25 oz for $2.50... so you get .50 oz after thinning.. It covers pretty well tho, so I dunno... still probably cheaper than ordering paint from Japan I did some calculations... 6 bottles of V-color EMS is roughly $60 to $70 based off my past orders 24 bottles (equal to 6 V-color) is $60 plus shipping, MINUS 10% if you're a preferred member

Re: No more V-Color from KT???
Oh and for the record... Mr. Thinner SUCKS BALLS!!! Either use V-color thinner with it, or off the shelf lacquer thinner...
Correction... Mr.Thinner works well to thin the paint... however... it does NOT work well to clean our your brush...

Re: No more V-Color from KT???
Noticed Rainbow ten has a couple v-color spraypaints. Anyone know of spraypaints good for vinyl? I was in a local hobby store yesterday looking, and a guy told me you can't spray paint vinyl because you need an acrylic paint and it will end up a marbling effect. I think some Skullbrainers might know better though.

I'd stay away from the Krylon Fusion... In my experience... no matter how light of coats you spray, it stays tacky forever... But thats just my experience...
I do believe Montana and Molotow Belton are solvent based acrylic paints like Mr.Color... If you wanna use spray paint... Use montana or Molotow...

Re: No more V-Color from KT???
Never had any problem with Vallejo unless I do heavy coating with it then it takes a while to dry and may need a blast of coating esp if you are using it as a base coat. Not saying its the best but a lot of military and sci-fi modelers stand by it. I probably wouldn't rub any paint or try to scratch it anyways Both of these about 85% Vallejo Air...these are both over a 18 months old and still sit pretty.
