 Re: Twitter...?
I use it to follow a few artists and friends, but I don't watch the public feed, or whatever they call it. I discovered Dr. Horrible from a Whedonesque tweet. Without that I might have missed Dr. Horrible because I am so out of the media loop. Also follow some Slooh and other astronomy Tweets and get some real cool links to new space pics etc.
However, I do completely agree that hearing that someone just plucked a hangnail is useless to me.

it would seem that I have little choice in the matter and I am going to have to succumb to the twitter craze if only to find out about toys.... ugh.... another fucking password to remember. I wandered about and still don't quite understand it... http://twitter.com/Upstart77Oh... I may have added you... I don't know...

 Re: Twitter...?
Meh, I'm fine actually GOING to the few sites I check for stuff manually. Also I should spend LESS time hunting toys so the less info the better for me for now hahaha.
I'm not "against" or "for" these types of sites, I see both their advantage and disadvantage, but for me and my lifestyle they're pretty useless. Same with things like cell phones and crap, people I know think I'm some weird anti-technology Unibomber dude, but it's more of "it just isn't for me." Why do I need to waste the money?
I know some people who can't do anything without a cellphone, like they forgot life BEFORE it. It cut off a lot of their self-reliance, memory and navigational skills. Some people I know, that's how they are with Facebook, Twitter and Myspace. Like, without those sites they cannot independently look for news, contact friends and find out about their lives (assuming they really care in the first place) or even find new bands and music they like. I'll say the people I know like that are the minority, but those are just the people I know and I don't know a lot of people because I'm the Unibo......I'm just not social.

If you follow CNN talking heads like Anderson Cooper, you can send them messages about their show or their coverage of a news event.

The more I hear about Twitter in the media the more I hate it.

 Re: Twitter...?
I'm really tired of hearing about this world wide web. And why would I ever need a search engine? I go where I want to go.

 Re: Twitter...?
I'm starting to think that maybe I'm the only person who seeks out information when I want it, not when it it thrust upon me.
I've never once used RSS feeds, I don't like email alerts & pop ups. (i'll check it when I'm damn ready!), I don't need my cellphone to beep at me to tell me one of my friends just drank a latte, or that a store I like is having a sale.
Its like electronic junk mail.
I just don't care that much. If I want it, I'll find it. Its worth missing out on some things to not feel like i'm jacked into the mainframe. I really fear that one of these days I'm just going to unplug my computer and throw my cellphone in a river.

 Re: Twitter...?
I'll agree with you on most of that except for the part about RSS feeds. Using something like Google Reader makes it extremely simple. It's like a browser-within-a-browser, only showing you what the new stuff is and where.
I'm up to 150 feeds now, and four of those are actually Twitter accounts. ;p

I really fear that one of these days I'm just going to unplug my computer and throw my cellphone in a river. I prefer email to phone as I can read it when I want and I have a record. I don't own a cell phone. I read paper on my commute. When I am away from work, I'm rarely online or connected. Email popup alerts like Google notifier is nice so I don't miss anything important. Quick summary that I can ignore or immediately read. Twitter doesn't thrust anything on you from my perspective. Subscribe to what you want. Ignore the rest. Virtually impossible to get junk email cause you're subscribing to trusted sources.

 Re: Twitter...?
Nah, I use Google Reader because of its integration with the other Google stuff that I use. Here's the Twitter stuff that I follow via RSS: http://twitter.com/opieradiohttp://twitter.com/anthonycumiahttp://twitter.com/jimnorton(because they post pics of what's happening on the show) http://twitter.com/MorristownMadam(to test that what I'm posting there is going through)

Incidentally, if someone wants to friend me on Facebook I'm giving it a Viking funeral in about a week, so you can witness the carnage.
