Just saying.

Care to say more? That's very interesting but I'm not sure I get it ... yet.

Also in case anyone didn't get the joke ... that photo I posted is of mystic and altruist Ram Dass, formerly one Richard Alpert, who with his colleague Timothy Leary at Harvard led experiments with psilocybin and LSD, which had transformative effects on both the experimenters and their subjects. The show's character was obviously named for the real-life Alpert although I don't yet know if the nod is significant to the story lines.

I'm sure the ironic allusion of the bit in the prior episode where Dharma used a sugar cube as the medium for the truth drug used on Sayid wasn't lost on all viewers. Sugar cubes were a popular medium for LSD in the 1960s. LSD (among other agents) was tested as a truth drug agent by the CIA in their MKULTRA days. Aspects of the Dharma Initiative on LOST appear to have been partially inspired by what is known about CIA mind control and social control research circa 1945 - 1978. Not saying there's necessarily a literal connection ... just citing an inspiration.

Now if they call the smoke monster "Mariah" I'll be really bummed. :)

I have to agree. Every episode seems to be paced really well. I don't feel the drag that other seasons have suffered from. I am very pumped about how certain threads are really coming together!

This season has been the first one I've actually watched on TV. I only started watching Lost last summer and watched all 4 seasons in about a month, so addicting.

Fuck that Rizinsky.

Lost has been one of my favorite television shows ever, and that season finale last night may have been the best episode to date!

Wish I knew who Jacob's nemesis was/is/will be...

Maybe it was the bomb blast that destroyed the statue?
Maybe Miles was right, maybe the best thing to do was to do nothing at all??

Post Re: Lost Season 5 Recap and Misc Talk
The way it ended, so much destruction. I was so sad about Juliet, and then to make it worse to see her at the bottom of the hole. A few things that I thought were really interesting, the end went to a white screen instead of the normal black screen. There was also a new LOST logo instead of the traditional one. Did anyone get the feeling of the very first episode when Jack woke up from his black out?

I can't believe we have to wait 8 months for the next season :(

Post Re: Lost Season 5 Recap and Misc Talk
I have to post this because the thought came into my mind. Okay let's assume for a minute that the bomb went off but when it blows up it takes the 1970's losties to present day. What they are doing doesn't change the future, it makes what happened, happen. So let's think back to season 1 and 2, recall when "Henry Gale" was captured and held in the hatch. What if the reason he knew everything about everyone was because the losties from 1970 went to 2007, and then their plane crashes all over again. Perhaps there's a reason they were on "the list" back from season 1 and 2. I don't know, the way I'm thinking about it in my mind seems to make a lot of sense. I think that scene where John, Ben and Richard go out to find John in the jungle and Richard tells him he has to die. The guy in black, smoke monsters, whatever you want to call him, he basically made it for sure that John would end up dying. I'm not sure if this makes sense to others they way it does to me but I had to get it out there. It seems like the present or future had a great deal of influence on the past. All the time travel is confusing! Okay, that's it for now.

Star Trek spoiler below ... do not read if you haven't seen it and intend to.

That's where I think they're going, too. The assumption by some of Our Gang that if they can change "the past" that it won't have happened seems absurd to me. It simply won't have happened in the affected parallel time stream ... which is pretty much the same time travel explanation used in Abrams' Star Trek reboot ... it's not that the past never happened, it was just a different past. I think when Hurley and Miles were rapping about time loops that something like this was suggested.

Speaking of Abrams loops did anyone catch the final two season episodes of "Fringe?" Heh heh ... it's all connected! Oh, and Uhura ordered a Slusho at the bar!

Anyway, I need to re-watch the LOST finale. The official podcast referred to the black/white symbolism in the episode but didn't commit to any particular interpretation. The podcasters did suggest not thinking of black and white along conventional "good vs. evil" lines. Hm, speaking of which, much has been made of the influence of Myst on LOST but now I'm wondering if Black and White played an inspirational role as well ... there are several elements that could be said to be similar.

Several podcasts ago, we were told that by the end of this season we'd see the statue again, that we'd learn more about Ben and Jacob, and that we'd also revisit and get more information on the smoke monster. The smoke monster bit turned out to be untrue ... unless ... the smoke monster is the post-bomb version of Jacob?

An eight month wait is going to be painful, but it'll be even more painful when the series ends. It's been too much fun.

It's All About Egyptian Mythology (Set vs. Apep) by Wolv256
Posted by DarkUFO at 5/14/2009 01:11:00 PM (Comments: 2)

It's all about Egyptian mythology.

The guy in black at the beginning was the Egyptian God of Evil, Apep.

Jacob is the Egpytian God, Set (or Seth).

Richard Alpert is Ra.

Horas was Horus.

The statue was Taweret.

Smokie (cerebus) is a Djinn.

Set overthrew Apep. Apep thinks people are bad and should all be wiped out. Set thinks people can be redeemed and should be spared. This whole thing was a test between the Gods to determine the fate of humanity. And I think they failed.

Jacob (Set) never was in the cabin. He was always in the shadow of the statue. Apep was trapped in the cabin. The Egyptian God Ash protected Set from Apep. Apep couldn't leave the Ash ring, trapping him in the cabin. When the line was broken, he was freed to cause chaos. He tricked Ben into thinking he was Jacob and didn't let him see him to anger Ben enough to kill the real Jacob. Locke's dead, the zombie Locke is actually Apep (or maybe Smokie). As God of Evil, Apep controls Cerebus, not Jacob. Ben was in fact getting two opposing sets of orders. One from Jacob (via Ra) and one from Apep, via Smokie. So, he was in fact actually a patsy just like Locke.

Also, Set ruled part of Egpyt, while Horus ruled the other half. Horus thought Set was evil and they had a war. Sound familiar?

So, while Locke and Ben were patsies for Apep, Jacob (Set) countered by making Jack his patsy. He anticipated Apep's move and used Jack to "undo" it.

The bomb did change things. They cut an important scene in which Daniel compared time to a river. A small pebble thrown into it would not change the course of the river and it would correct itself. But a large boulder could make a big splash and alter the river. The bomb was to make a big splash. They should have left this in. The bomb changed things.
