 Re: Getting Reacquainted With Goga
I found the old email from May 2006. It says that Anraku only had blank green bodies at the time and that he would chemically alter a green body to make a black body for the Aurora...
Not sure what is involved in the chemical alteration.
There is also reference in another email to the fact that the chemical solution would be boiling.

 Re: Getting Reacquainted With Goga
I wonder if he did that with the old vader as well. Fascinating.
Are they the same vinyl? That one preceded the aurora if I am thinking correct timeline.
As for "one-offs", personally I think of each anraku piece I own as being a one off because he paints them all by hand and each one is going to vary a little from another.
To see the layering and paint application on these older figures up close is really something. If you look at mine at a glance, it would almost be difficult to figure out the base color. I'd say there are probably 10 colors on it.

 Re: Getting Reacquainted With Goga
Anybody have a pic of the "brown" goga?
Anybody save copies of the "for sale" pages of Anraku's old website?
Please let me know.
It might be fun to try to recreate a reference gallery of all known goga versions, as well as all known versions of other Anraku pieces.

 Re: Getting Reacquainted With Goga
I just created a blog called "The Splendid Monstrous Beast" to be used as a reference site ("shrine"?) to try to catalogue all known versions of Goga, plus other Anraku figures, using pictures, details, and informative bits from wherever they can be found. It is intended to be a fully collaborative effort (NOT just photos of stuff in my collection, for example).
Right now the blog is completely blank...
Any ideas on what any of you might like to see on such a blog before I start to fill out the details and make it active? Right now, I am open to any reasonable suggestions.
Would people be willing to share pics they have to be posted on the blog?
Feel free to post your ideas here, or PM me.

 Re: Getting Reacquainted With Goga
I'd like the blog to have high res scans of the mini posters that came with the figures. AND if someone could translate what they say, that'd be nuts!
Not all versions came with them, and I'd really love to print out a quality version of the Dako and Goga ones. Plus it'd be cool just to see. Also headers.

 Re: Getting Reacquainted With Goga
I like the 2D Goga art better than the toy. Such a cool drawing.

 Re: Getting Reacquainted With Goga
Some great ideas so far!
I would like to include the best images available. In some cases, it may not be possible to avoid creases...
For purposes of going forward, if you have pictures, scans, information, screenshots, etc. that you can contribute, please PM me and we can trade emails to share things and combine resources.
I do have a day job too, so I will proceed as quickly as I can given the realities of how much time is available. Volunteers welcome!

 Re: Getting Reacquainted With Goga
Anybody know how to use the "way back machine" or whatever it is called to possible harvest some screen shots or pics from the old Anraku site?

 Re: Getting Reacquainted With Goga
That Goga header with the pic of him breathing fire is the best! Love those two drawings! And is Gorilla the one with the tusks? Whatever it's called - I really like the drawing of it too.

The drawings and toys are all pretty amazing IMO. The high res is on my flickr. Didn't want to post it here since it's so big. But it does have the creases.

I covet certain anraku sculpts. I will probably never own one because I'm not cool kid or can afford after market price but one can still look for free.
