BEST fight of the night no question. Machida is incredible, his fighting stance has never been seen and totally threw Evans off his game resulting is one of the best knock outs I have seen in quiet some time.

Wow! That Evans fella got destroyed. UFC is so different from when it started. There was no such thing as a stand-up fight back in the day.

It's wild to watch a good striker just drown in a style he can't wrap his mind around. Machida has been outstanding in every fight he's had in the UFC.

The thing is, Evans is a monster and usually destroys he opponent. So it was weird to see him almost do nothing to Machida.

So true! Evans had to go through some of the toughest UFC competition to get that belt! Then to see him unable to even get up and running in that fight was intense!

I'm still high off that fight from last night. I love what Machida brings to the UFC. He's never compromised himself. I've read that Dana White didn't particularly like Machida at first because he wasn't really a brawler--maybe kind of boring. He's going to be all up on Machida's dragon balls now.

I think Evans is still a bad-ass though. For his first loss and first time being KOed, he was a totally good sport about it. Some of my friends didn't like Evans much because he seemed cocky, but I think he's just having fun. when the shoe was on the other foot, he totally didn't make excuses to help his ego through his loss. That says something.

I admire both fighters very much. I'd love to see Machida go up against the Spider Silva. If Machida wins like he won the last two UFC fights he had, I don't think anyone could beat him.

Machida has spanked a lot of fighters.

I think the next fighter he will face is Rampage. That should be interesting, although I think Rampage will also get whooped.

Post Re: LYOTO MACHIDA
I read that around the time of UFC 96, Rampage said something to the effect of "I can't watch Machida's videos. he's boring". I wonder if he's going to go back and maybe check out a few fights.

I think the only thing that Rampage might have that all the other fighters didn't is maybe a very lucky shot. But if Evans couldn't get one in, then can Rampage?

Hmm... I don't know. It will be a GREAT fight, cause if Rampage is anything it's fearless. He will get in on Machida and won't want to wait to counter on him. Rampage will push the pace and Machida will do his thing. It is definitely a sweet matchup!

Machida has a fighting style no one has seen, if Rampage tries to rush it will be his downfall.

Similar things were said when Rampage fought Silva back in Pride. Either way Rampage is not afraid to get thumped on. He has taken some real beatings and given just as good. It will be an awesome fight!

Anyone have video of BJ Penn fighting Machida back in the day?

yes, I would rather see Machida fight Silva than Rampage. of course, Silva's last performance coupled with most of Machida's fights might make for a very boring fight indeed.

I think this is the first of Machida's fights that didn't bore me. His elusive style can be annoying to watch. But I guess you can't argue with success.

Post Re: LYOTO MACHIDA
I never thought Machida was boring. I liked how he could stick and move on opponents who could always easily close the gap and control the fight. that's not easy to do.

When I started martial arts, my instructor would tell us "Hitting is easy. I want you to not get hit. that's more important". We spend a lot of time on footwork and "defensive" techniques. later, you learn how to exploit your attacker's openings and advance forward on the offensive--but you only advance when there is control. I look at Machida and see how expertly he does both.

But it is really nice to see him knock dudes out. I read in a magazine that Machida has been trying to perfect his karate technique, and is now ready to show the world that he has knock out power. all in due time, right? "killer punch".
