Rest in Peace Carradine.

73 is fairly young. That's too bad.

This is disturbing news... But much more believable than natural causes. And go him for still playing games at that age!

The article I read, simply said he had hung himself and there were no signs of assault, a suicide.
Whatever happened. It is sad. He had a unique manner, an interesting character.

I was surprised...what a wild story. It reminds me of the INXS singer's suicide--so mysterious.

Post Re: RIP Kung Fu Star David Carradine
Hold on a moment, while I crack my knuckles and try to channel someone else's obituary style...

I met David Carradine briefly at a Chiller Theatre convention a few years ago. My friend Tadayuki from M1GO was with me. Tada had been saving vacation time and money for months so he could come to America and meet one of his favorite film stars.

Tadayuki's English skills were very good, but he wanted me with him in case he got tongue tied in front of his hero. The Saturday morning of the show, we used our dealers' passes to get into the autograph room early.

Carradine was there, sitting next to Dean Stockwell and joking around. We politely kept our distance from the table, waiting for them to finish talking. When he turned around to us, we approached, and Tadayuki managed to squeak out, "I am a big fan."

No acknowledgement from Carradine, so after a pause I piped up. "Tadayuki here came from Japan, and he was wondering if you could sign some items of his."

Carradine just kept looking at us. Nothing. He turned to Stockwell and asked dryly, "Is it martini time yet?"

Turning back to us, he wordlessly pointed at the list of prices for signing items and buying photographs. Tada was prepared with a stack of bills. He purchased an autographed photo and paid for Carradine to sign three Kill Bill DVDs.

Through the entire transaction he never said one word to myself or Tadayuki. He just glared at us while he signed the photo and DVDs, and took the money.

Walking back to the dealer's room, Tada asked, "Maybe he is not such a nice person?"

So, in summary, FUCK YOU, DAVID CARRADINE. I'll never forget how you treated my friend.

(And yes, folks, by posting this I am giving you carte blanche to judge me based on how I behaved towards you for a two-minute period at Chiller Theatre, once I shuffle off this mortal coil. However, I'll say if you were giving me money for stuff, the experience was probably somewhat pleasant.)

That sucks Roger. I've had a similar thing in my youth when my brother spotted Karem Abdul Jabbar. We were big fans of the Lakers back then with Karem, Magic, Cooper, and others. The thing is, it's not like it was after a game or was surrounded by people. It was Karem, standing around waiting for his ride to pick him up and he brushed us off, didn't even look at us and said "Not now kids..." This wasn't even in the US.

sorry to hear Roger. that really sucks.

not justifying Carradine's actions at all, but I think sitting in a convention full of fan boys during the twilight of one's career signing autographs for money must be hell in itself.

And Bruce Lee was supposed to star in the "Kung Fu" tv series.

And your friend is right.
"Maybe he is not such a nice person?"

And to add to a further list of crappy encounters:

really? you met his airness? (& he was an ass?)... was it because he talks in the 3rd person?

closest i've had to a celebrity encounter was seeing delroy lindo at oakland airport, but I was too scared to say anything to him.

"Celebrity" encounters are strange but all I know is that if I ever had to be in the spotlight 7x24... There is no way in hell I would be nice or friendly all the time. I think that's an unrealistic expectation especially after seeing someone 1 time

Martial arts actor Shek Kin also passed today.
Who's next? (barf) Jean Claude Van Damme or Steven Seagal?

Hong Kong has lost one of its greatest and longest living film treasures. Veteran martial arts actor Shek Kin (aka Shih Kien, Sek Kin), best known internationally for his role in ENTER THE DRAGON as "Mr. Han," died this morning at the venerable age of 96.

Gregory So, Hong Kong's Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development expressed regret at the loss.

"Mr. Shek's brilliant career in the performing arts industry started in the 1940s. Since then he devoted lifelong commitment to the industry. He played a villain role in the Wong Fei-hung film series and had become one of the most recognizable faces of Hong Kong cinema," said So.

"With his death, Hong Kong has lost an outstanding performing arts talent. On behalf of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, I offer our deepest condolences to Mr. Shek's family."
