 ipod touch
Anyway have one? Pros or cons?
I need something simple to play music. Is this more of a novelty then others?

 Re: ipod touch
I really love my touch. I got one free from the back to school deal so it's only 8gb, not nearly enough for all the stuff I have. Being able to watch movies, go on the internet when wifi is around, having games, it's really nice. I watched tons of episodes of The Office, Toy Punks, ESB and all kinds of music. I also downloaded a few free games, very awesome. If you're not into video/games at all, I'd just go with the classic. It holds 120 gb and if you're only getting it for music that's my opinion of the way to go. Helpful?

 Re: ipod touch
Overall it's good but I don't like using it for jogging. Trying to use the touch screen is a pain while moving. I stick to my shuffle for running and the touch for travel.

 Re: ipod touch
Good points and thank you. Basically I'm looking for something I can listen to while running and/or possibly use on an airplane while flying with my 2 1/2 year old (the video feature)
Everything else is a bonus but I just need something with basic apps and maybe the occasional wifi.
(Wifi: I heard no flash but other than that everything sincs up well??)
I don't know anyone who has one so thanks for the help.

 Re: ipod touch
i dont own also, but was looking into it. pretty good deal that you get a free one with the new macbook pros.
i have used a couple of my friends though, it is really nice, but i never really liked the whole touch screen thing, i always want to be pressing something. i also have this pet peeve with phones.
pros: apps and games( some of the free ones are great, but a lot of the good ones will cost you) wi-fi ( my friend always gets connection at school) better than a classic for viewing movies and photos
cons: no 3G not getting a lot of GB for the money, opposed to the ipod classic nothing to press
pretty much, if you want the ipod for music, videos, podcasts, and a couple of basic games, go with the classic. -if you want a lot of games, touch screen, but want less storage, get the touch.

 Re: ipod touch
I just got a used iTouch and I really dig it. I think the iPod feature is no different than that of an actual iPod, however it is nice to be able to access the internet anywhere there is a hot spot. So far, the lack of 3G has not impaired my internet use one bit. I am not yet an App-nerd, but I do like the simple things like Weather and World Clock (nice to compare times so I don't miss the closing on those YJA auctions.) Video function is wonderful--so watching those movies on the plane trip will be a plus. I saved up for one of the Bose Sounddocks and I can't wait to get the Touch pumping through it. (I'll never get rid of my record player, though. So getting an iPod just for music is not an option for me.)

 Re: ipod touch
Best ipod by a country mile, great interface, access to the App store games etc etc. I love mine.
Also really solid...dropped it at least 10 times on the pavement (or sidewalk if you insist) with no problems.

 Re: ipod touch
Once they have more storage (for less $) - and hopefully a camera - I'll buy the touch.

 Re: ipod touch
Long boring story:
I had a Palm and an iPod Shuffle (2nd gen). My dad lost his Palm, and isn't all that great at adapting to new devices, and I lost my Shuffle, probably threw it out accidentally or inhaled it.
So I gave the Palm to my dad and to fulfill the address book, contact manager, and MP3 player needs, I got an iPod Touch. Loved it, I was able to watch movies now, view pictures, and I was happy with the PDA replacement aspect of it, especially the fact that it synchronized with my Gmail contacts.
Unfortunately, the thing is just too big to carry comfortably at the gym, and definintely too big to run or skate with. I'd be afraid if I ever fell on the damn thing.
Luckily, the day after I bought the Touch I tried my hand at a claw catcher game on the Wildwood boardwalk, and won a Shuffle (3rd gen) after about 15 tries. That's what goes to the gym and everywhere else with me, but damn is that thing tiny.
So I say get both. The apps on the Touch are so cool. I have a few games, apps to access things like eBay and Paypal, and even a roller derby penalty timer.

 Re: ipod touch
So many better options with more features than the "trendy" ipods.

Not many with apps, though.
Wait, you used quotes, do you mean that iPods are not trendy?

 Re: ipod touch
i got my ipod touch a few months ago now for holiday and have to say its been amazing, if your in a wifi spot of which there are loads these days you get really good internet browsing and i you install skype and get the headphones with a build in mic which cost about $30 or so then you can make free calls as well when your out and about, saved me loads when I was in Chicago and calling the UK
loads of good apps as well just like the iphone, well worth the money, and pick up a ipod shuffle on ebay for your running as much better than holding onto full size ipod

 Re: ipod touch
All I want is a really good mp3 player, fm radio, great screen with great colors, and massive compatiability. Oh yeah, and no fucking DRM. You can pick that up about half the price of ipods and just not join the "i" world. Roger wrote: Not many with apps, though.

Just give it to me straight, audiodifficulties. I'm just trying to figure out whether or not I'm cool for owning two iPods. This is important to me.

You're cool if you share your earset with someone else so you can both listen to music together at the same time. Also cool to listen to your ipod while at the same time speaking very loudly to a friend who isn't listening to an ipod. Also very cool to dial up your ipod to 11 so I can hear the lyrics while we share a long elevator ride. Extra points if you use one hand to control your ipod and the other hand to text message on a cell phone.

 Re: ipod touch
I got the 120 gb classic several months ago. All I wanted was something that I could listen to music on & have a shitload of storage. It definitely accomplishes that. Got a bunch of my movies on it too. I have been very happy with it so far, other than the earphones that came with it.

 Re: ipod touch
If you decide to get an iPod Touch and you're not a student that can get one free with the current Apple Back To School deal, I'd recommend waiting until September. The newer version of the touch should be coming out around then. Apple typically announces it about a week after the BTS deal ends. And the new iPod Touch should be inheriting a lot of the features of the recently announced iPhone 3G S (lame name).

 Re: ipod touch
Won't the older Touches just have operating system upgrades that will let them do the same things as the new iPhones?

Last time they updated the touches, they were actually given more powerful hardware than the iphone. The new refresh will probably put them on par with the recent hardware that the iphone is using, not to mention more storage. There is nothing wrong with getting one now though, just have to be prepared to be upset when they announce a new one in a couple of months

 Re: ipod touch
Sense to me is people clamoring to the ipod world when they aren't that user friendly, sure you can play some games on a cool touch screen, but apple sold the consumers out with DRM. Was voicing an opinion in a thread asking about ipods. Guess I'm just a dick when I do it since I'm not a mod. Roger wrote: audiodifficulties wrote: I hope this cleared it up for you Roger. Doesn't make sense. half of this board doesn't make sense Roger. audio has some good logic in his issue with ipods. DRM is a pain in the ass. i, on the other hand, am an apple junkie and they can't do much wrong in my eyes so I fully admit to being a lemming and following the world in this case. I've seen a few threads recently where I don't understand your logic either so I guess everyone is on the same page.

I honestly dont know what this has to do with iPods. iPods will play MP3s just fine, and iTunes will let you rip your cds to several different non DRMed formats. You dont have to put a single DRM track on there if you so choose. Now if we were talking about the iTunes store, that's a different issue all together.
