Popy "Lighter" ? Robos
This is my first post on the vintage section, not sure if 1981 is vintage enough for you guys, but need some info.... Looking for a Voltes V diecast, I ended up scoring this Popy 1981 "Lighter"? Robot way back in 1999 in Hong Kong--not sure though why they were called lighter robos, maybe due to its shape?? Ddin't know why I got it in the first place, but aside from its play factor, its design has appealed to my taste in toys. I have zero info on this piece, but looking at the mini catalog that came with it, I want to track his other bothers. Maybe anyone here can help? It even came with some extra missiles and firing fists.... Anyone here has some of his buddies?

From the anime series Golden Warrior Gold Lightan. I have never seen it, but basically it is about a boy who befriends Lightan, the figure you have, who can become a giant robo.

Thanks a lot! It actually volts it together with the other pieces on the catalog? Wow. I have to see that anime as well.

I am only familiar with them because I came across some on YJA and liked the design, though I thought it actually functioned as a lighter at the time and was disappointed to discover this is not the case. The whole series has easy to score repros which I am sure has made the vintage pieces more affordable.

Yep - that's correct. I believe that all of them have now been reissued. They even issued some together in a really nice display case. Gold Lightan himself was also made under the Soul of Chogokin line (in two color schemes), but it is a different mold than the vintage / reissue toys. The reissues seem to be pretty inexpensive. I keep meaning to snag some, but other purchases keep taking precedence.

Yes, the repro's are great. In fact, I have two buddies for sale in my photobucket. Gods, how shameless! JAY, which Voltes were you looking for? The Popy ST or DX?

I'm looking for the older diecasts---there's a small and a bigger version. I believe these are the DX?

There are smaller versions of the Gold lighttans in vintage candy toys and the like.. If you have any more questions on the POPY diecast stuff you can confirm your questions here: http://www.toyboxdx.com/datafiles/data/ ... _index.htm

These guys are always appealing! Makes me miss the days when TV shows about kids “befriending” alien/robot lighters could be made. What a damned premise!
