Good point Jeff, I hadn't considered something like TMNT. Heck I don't know where you draw the line. I think we're probably closer in our ideas about it than further apart. BloodDrinker6969 wrote: How about "monster toys" I think that works, it's what I say to people who have no clue what I collect. I collect monster toys (and mutant toys and robot toys and sci-fi toys and......) Try explaining why you only collect "pink monster toys".

I know I've mentioned it before, but there was a conversation about my toys with a person I worked with that ended: "Oh, like Poke'mons?" "...................yeah, I guess, like Poke'mons "

Re: What do you consider Kaiju ?
for me, kaiju and kaiju toys refers only to monsters/creatures that come from a Japanese televised program or film. Vintage bootleg monsters that don't come from a show/movie but are obviously derivative of monsters from that film history also count, such as the illustration books that created desura and others.
Kaiju-based Japanese toys describes most of the Gargamel line. Most of what I have of the modern toys I just call Japanese monster toys.

They're supposed to be people sized. And yes, the TMNT would count as kaijin.

G'damn pokemons are so tough to complete. Has anyone really tried catchin them all?
TMNT evolved from being exposed to radioactive compounds which is the same as Godzilla. Had they been exposed to radioactivity in Godzilla's magnitude they'd be 4 Gameras.

I suppose I feel the same way about certain current toy producers (gargamel, blobpus both are good examples). sure, they're polished and more refined than earlier toys, but still I think "kaiju" is still a pretty appropriate term if you take it in it's literal meaning of "strange beast", but I suppose even the term itself could be open to interpretation. Nontheless, I think if I were to hop into my time machine with say, a dokugan or typical blob fig for example, and visit a typical TV watching japanese youth of the 60/70's... I think they'd still identify the toy as "kaiju". and probably beg me to let them have it. but instead I'd rob them of their popy goodies and marusan classics.

Because they are american Super-Heros, just because they were trained as Ninjas doesn't make them Japanese...
