Re: Sorry Farrah - Michael Jackson is dead...?
Does that mean I can try to sell my signed copy of Moon Walk on here for 2000 dollars or try to trade for a bemon collection now? It even has a sketch by him. I can throw in a no smoking sign to even things out too. Seriously though I was looking forward to his new tour and hopefully he has more peace in his death than he got in his life.

I don't see him as having anything to contribute to the world - and he hasn't contributed anything meaningful in 20 +/- years. So I don't see any "loss" as far as the world is concerned. But then maybe I'm just a heartless a-hole. I really couldn't care less about 99.9% of celebrity deaths. The last that I can remember that actually reduced the talent of the world were Kurt Cobain, Phil Hartman, Chris Farley. i think being one of the the most popular entertainers on the planet for decades is contributing something to the world. more talented early on, definitely - but he continued to be a HUGE influence all over the world, even after scandal. instantly selling out 10 back-to-back concerts in London is pretty significant. who knows, could have been a child seeing him for the first time at one of those shows who would be truly inspired. i might call that a loss. EDIT: it was 50 shows in London this summer that sold out in less than 4 hours. Zollmen ain't got shit on that

Re: Sorry Farrah - Michael Jackson is dead...?
His music was great, but his life was tragic. I know there are a few chuckle-heads bring out the "Who cares, he's a celebrity?" thing, but you know what... His music really transcended the manipulation and B.S. that poor guy went through. I mean look at the rest of the Jacksons: Every one of them was pushed and cajoled by their a-hole father to be a star so he (the father) could be the "star"... Michael was the only one who really was a star regardless of that B.S. Maybe Janet too, but she didn't come close. Also, here in NYC I learned about it while enjoying an afternoon walk and it was/is quite amazing to hear Michael Jackson songs blasting out of every car/truck that passes. NYPD passed by with “Billie Jean” blasting. Delivery trucks playing off the way. Every damned car/truck playing his music. Not one “Boom Boom Pow” to be heard for once this summer. R.I.P.

Maybe I didn't state my thoughts clearly (or I'm just a callous asshole). He definitely DID contribute to the world, but I don't think he had anything MORE to contribute - therefore, IMO, this isn't a "loss". We're not missing out on a future album, we didn't lose a Mother Theresa/Nelson Mandela. He was just some washed-up, ex-pop star. Selling out concerts doesn't mean he's making a contribution - the Stones are still selling out concerts. I imagine Britney Spears is selling out concerts. None of them have made any music that's contributed to the wealth of the world in the past 20 years.

Naw, I was just saying - what have any of them done in the past 20 years that's been notable?

Re: Sorry Farrah - Michael Jackson is dead...?
I was a big fan as a little kid, I personally don't think he ever did anything to any kids (sexually) and it's kind of sad what his life turned into. He kind of never had a chance, though, his personal history is littered with all sorts of horrible crap. I feel worse for his kids, what they have to grow up hearing/seeing about the father they never really got to know. "Moonwalker" fucking rules.
