The TOP of Mt. Fuji. It rained the entire time and was freezing, but we made it to the top:

Mt. Fuji stands at 12,388 ft (3,776 m). Wow.

Best that I have done is 3,165 feet (965 m).

BTW, nice photos!
Any idea what the stone dogs (?) are called??

Don't worry, it's a little known fact but you catch the common cold from germs, not cold weather. The two words are justs homonyms.

The best I can come up with are guardian dogs, but I'll ask some of the Japanese people I work with tomorrow to see if they have an official name.

Well I didn't check the temperature at the very top, but a few hundred feet from it it was 44° Fahrenheit. So technically not freezing, but with the wind and rain it sure felt freezing to me. I'm pretty sure it was colder at the top also.

Amazing pics for sure! Especially that first one with the fog in the background.
Great stuff.

If you're Okinawan it would be Shisa. Open mouth (should be the one on the right) to ward off evil and closed mouth (the one on the left) to keep the good.

That's pretty cool that you made it to the top- maybe GF was a good luck charm. Did you do a night climb to see the sunrise?

The climb is deceptively easy and flat until you get closer to the top- then it gets crazy steep and rocky. I tried twice when I was younger, and never made it all the way to the top station. And that rain. That freezing, freezing rain. I hope you guys had the good sense to bring sturdy rain gear like all the other Japanese climbers (we did not, unfortunately).

I tried hiking El Yunque in Puerto Rico and nearly died, I respect you so much for conquering that. My big ass aint fit for climbing I'm more suited for the life of a walrus, I'm great an lounging and am very see worthy. Climbing... Nope.

The Japanese name for the temple dogs is Koma Inu. I think most of the other names out there are Chinese.

We realized the longer we took breaks the harder it was to get moving again so we pretty much just kept moving with small breaks. We made it to the top in about four hours and twenty minutes.

that is amazing timing!!

the biggest hike i ever did was very close in height to fuji...mt humpheries in arizona which is 12,637 feet (3,852 m),,,just a little bit higher..

but i camped in a pasture about 2/3 of the way to the summit & hiked to the summit in the morning (AND this was 17years ago)

that might be a bit more challenging now me thinks...good on you my man!!
