The original was mostly crap so I guess it can only get better being remade.

and thats the way to do it! remake BAD movies and meake em good, not ruin good movies.

anyway, if this is a departure from deathproof im even more excited! deathproof is my least favorite tarantino project. jackie brown is a GREAT movie and as stated VERY underrated. tarantino is all about killer diologue. thats what makes his stuff so exciting for me. the action just tops it off generally. this looks more an more promising! cant wait to see it and as said earlier as well, most critics arent worth a shit for their reviews.

Agreed. It seems like that's the one that hardcore Tarrantino fans like the least, whereas people inclined to be harsh on him like me think it's the one where his film fanboi thing works the best. And you've got to love a movie where Pam Grier is a better actor than Robert DeNiro. :-)

My favorite film critic these days is Mark Kermode in the UK. He's part of a group of British film critics who are refusing to review or even really talk about "Inglorious Basterds," evidently on the principle that they hated it so much and are sick of Tarrantino. The only thing that Kermode has said is that "it's long. Very long."

Oh well no matter what the critics think it'll have a big audience just because it's a Q movie.

I'm definitely seeing it, I'm a QT fanboi. Hell, I even loved Death-Proof. :) I'm sure I'll be going solo though, my wife finds his movies either too violent or too wordy, or both (see Death-Proof). She digs Pulp Fiction, but that is about it.

I love Kermode, he's not often wrong and when he is he's funny enough that it doesn't matter. His recent review of Pelham 1 2 3 was great.

I'm on the fence with this film, esp as I hated Death Proof. Jut got an invite to see it on saturday night... dunno.

nah, you're not the only one.

TRUTH.

I like Pitt as an actor, I'm on and off w/QT but always give him an honest shot, and I'm a sucker for some Nazi bashing, so I'm excited just a bit.

She ain't all that, lost loads of weight as well. I can't stand skinny birds. She's just a massive pair of lips on a skeleton.
I don't mind Pitt as a actor. He makes me laugh in the Oceans films and i saw the assasination of Jesse James recently, which i think is one of the best things i've ever seen him in(although Cassy Afleck stole it).
But i'm really looking forward to this, it reminds me of a video games take on WW2, Medal of honour or Call of Duty style.
We all know it's not going to be historically correct, just a romp through the Black Forest, killing Nazi's............fantastic.

Yeah, but Mark Kermode is a real dick. He has his head stuck so far up his arse he can lick his own colon. He can't except that people sometimes want a bit of action fun. The guy is ruled by the art house. If it's not Lars Von Trier, or the like, he thinks its rubbish.............knob.

I would say this, but I don't think you're right here.
One of his favourite films is High School Musical, because it is perfect for it's target audience, and made for no one else. He is also a massive fan and supporter of horror.
And even though he gave pelham a middle of the road review he did it by comparing it to the original and highlighting the differences, without saying that they destroyed it.
So he isn't ruled by arthouse. It may just so happen that 90% of the hollywood output is just vacuous shite.

edit: Kermode on Tarantino

Seems pretty clear and fair to me.

Hey Josh, i knew you'd come back with something  . I don't like the bloke much, as you can tell. I know he's a big horror buff, but i've seen him slate too much lately. just a grumpy(greasy) old man and he can't hide it by saying, "i just loved high school musical, my daughter and i can't stop singing it".
I know he knows what he's talking about, just does it in a bit of a cocky way. I never listen to him anyway

In what way?

The way Pitt says Knat- zees.

This is annoying the shit out of me as well. I like Pitt, and I know it's just a character, but he's going way overboard saying it like that over an over. The character seems like a wooden robot with three phrases he can say. "Knat-zees *dramtic pause* knat-zees"

I just don't like Brad Pitt. He only ever seems to play one role, either slightly unhinged, or slightly retarded and he plays them both the same.
He was good when what he was doing was original, and he can obviously pick good films, but I think he is pretty one dimensional.

He alone can put me off a film. As a matter of fact I dislike Fight Club because of him. And he is quite good in it.
Just that whole twitchy 12 Monkeys shit gets old.
Perhaps in much the same way that VHammer dislikes Kermode ;)

Have you seen Jesse James, i thought he did a splendid job, quite chilling at times. Plus, no one plays a stoner like Bradley.

I wanted to like JJ, but Pitt killed it for me, I did try.

I thought the paranoia came accross well, but if you don't like him, you don't like him.
Shirley Casey Affleck saved it a bit for you. Saying that, he's one of my favourites from the Oceans films. When he gets the dice factory to go on strike in Mexico is hilarious and that tash, well, it's tash-tastic.

For the record Jackie Brown put me to sleep. That was the follow up to Pulp Fiction??!? geezus..righto about Pam Grier carrying the flick. So have any of you seen "Rise of the Footsoldier" ? It reminded me so much of Reservoir Dogs. Not the script, but the sheer brutality.

I don't think angelina jolie is all that. Jessica Biel all the way.

Jackie Brown rules. Pam Grier rules. I really like Deathproof. I thought the heavy dialogue was just a set up for what happens next. It kind of makes you think the girls aren't going to die quickly and horribly because you got to know them a little. I loved that. then the second half is soooo awesome.

I HATE brad pitt. It's always a chore to watch him "act". I liked him in fight club though and he was alright in "burn after reading"--especially when he got shot in the face. anyway, he's only thing that's getting me about this movie. "drawn out dialogues" with brad pitt...dammit. I'm buying the big tub of popcorn. maybe I can drown him out with all my chewing.

i think jackie brown is a solid movie. i could see it putting someone to sleep, but that doesnt mean its no good : ) c'mon guys b pitt rules didnt anyone see benjamins buttons? i never thought of pitt as one dimensional, but i guess i see it. i still think hes pretty good in more then a few movies. to me denzel washington only plays ONE character ever. i get so sick of watching him just because i feel like im watching a never ending sequel.

Post Re: New Basterds clip...
Kermode had some criticisms for the new von Trier film. I like that he sometimes breaks the art house snob stereotype. He had a blast watching "Mama Mia" even though he thought it was stupid and repeatedly made the point that that's okay, to just turn your brain off and have fun. He definitely seems a bit full of himself but I just view that as part of the act. When he was less arrogant in the past, he wasn't as entertaining. Plus anyone who's all time favorite movie is "The Exorcist" can't be all bad. :-) Mostly I like him because he gauges impressive cinematic knowledge with open-mindedness and humor and because he's more articulate than most current critics in the USA. San Francisco's Mick LaSalle can be a real embarrassment sometimes.

As for Mister Pitt I think he has a limited range but when well cast, can do well. His comic talent shone in "Burn After Reading" and "Ocean's Eleven" which got me to stop thinking so poorly of him. In the clip from Basterds, I don't know. I thought it seemed like a good scene but the guy playing the Nazi seemed to be playing it in a sincere fashion whereas Pitt was campy, probably intentionally so, and somehow the accent and military tough guy composure just didn't seem to fit, but without knowing quite what tone Tarrantino is trying to set, I don't know if that's intentional or a shortcoming. Anyway at the risk of cultivating total disrespect I'd rather risk going to see a new Tarrantino film than a new Tim Burton film.

I head the soundtrack is awesome.
QT apparently used original scores from his fave spag western, blaxploitation & war movies.
Also heard there's some incredible dialog driven tension. Even though it's been marketed as an action movie.

Can't wait. Seeing it tomorrow.

Got to see it last weekend....it's......okay. Sorta. Like all QT films it has some brilliant stand out moments that make you realise why you go back and see QT films!

The opening scene is fantastic, perhaps too fantastic for its own good because after that it never reaches those heights again.

Pitt's alright, again not a fan either, Michael Fassbender is brilliant as always but this film is really about one person/character - Christophe Waltz's Col Landa.

The Quietus review (which I enjoyed, although disagree with): "Everyone forgets that Tarantino's films are mostly dialogue, only punctuated with blood." Err.....that's pretty much his calling card :?

I know what you mean, but I think a lot of people's complaint with Death Proof was the all talk no action element of it. So not everyone realises this.
Plus when you hear "Exploitation style Nazi revenge flick" you don't think "Tarantino talks a lot".
But, yeah, I do kind of agree with you.
