 Make an offer
So are "make an offer" sales ok again? Selling rules say no, but there is one up now by Super7 royalty.

 Re: Make an offer
You should have an item listed price of $600,000 Then tell people that if they can't afford this to make an offer

 Re: Make an offer
Someone has explained that it is apparently OK to say "make an offer" if you have also listed your price... Maybe this was discussed somewhere else and I missed it. Anyway, thanks for the explanation. If the explanation is accurate, perhaps the "official" rules should be amended to clarify this exception to the current blanket "make an offer" prohibition: Quote: 1) Sales should be simple: list the item and price. No make an offer sales, no raffles, no lotteries, no presale notices or other nonsense. If you break this rule your thread is deleted without notice.

 Re: Make an offer
If someone lists a price and then says "make an offer," how could that possibly be construed as a bad thing? Seriously, all it does is give the buyer a chance at an even better deal.
I see this as a non-issue. You want to talk about a real issue to preserve the integrity of the Sale section: A sticky buyer/seller feedback thread. Now that's something that could help protect members from getting burned. But every time it's raised, it's shot down as too "Western" or "normal" or something. People are told to police themselvse, but warning threads are buried or automatically deleted, so even running a search will not yield protection from scammers. Anyway, 2 cents and all that.

 Re: Make an offer
I can understand it can help overall to ward off the Flatliners and eLocomotions, but I am also afraid it can cause abuse in feedback much like ebay does. They'll hold the feedback as a weapon unless you refund, return item, and issues like loss of item in the post..then who is to blame... buyer will definitely vote neg etc. In the end things will still be judged in the overall respect/ friend status here anyway... so there's always going to be bias no matter what happens good or bad.

I think pretty much everyone here is an adult, who is fully aware of the pitfalls of buying and selling in a collectors market. And yes, making a bad seller/dealer thread would be asking for trouble, you'd get a bunch of people complaining that someone took more than a week to post something or whatever whingey little complaint they can come up with.

 Re: Make an offer
This, the Flatline thread, and the "got paranoid" thread should be required reading before joining the board. People need to know what they're getting into.

 Re: Make an offer
The "no make an offer sales" issue is not a big deal to me either. But if you are going to expressly state a flat prohibition, I think you are asking for trouble to rely on individual members to decide whether or not their own exception to the rule is ok because it makes sense to them, or they don't think others would mind, etc. I guess all I am suggesting is that the selling rules should be amended to read something like this so that the rule reflects the accepted practice: Quote: 1) Sales should be simple: list the item and price. No make an offer sales unless the item price is also listed, no raffles, no lotteries, no presale notices or other nonsense. If you break this rule your thread is deleted without notice. Seems simple enough.

 Re: Make an offer
i think that's pretty much common sense geo. the rule is in place so people don't post stuff without a price.

 Re: Make an offer
I think the problem with that is "RxH Chaos $100 OR BEST OFFER" that's not cool in the sense of "$100 is the LOWEST I'll go, I'll take higher offers!" BUT the reason the offers out there now seem ok is because it's a flip situation. One of "I can't sell this for $40, I REALLY don't want to keep it, give me an offer LESS that would be fair, it's already below retail/what I paid."
SO-
"Offers" encouraging upping prices/flipping, even if a base price is listed - not cool.
"Offers" for things that are marked fair or low as is and have sat for sale at those prices for some time and now the seller is open to LOWER offers - accepted.
Seems kind of obvious to me, I haven't seen any of the earlier situation in a long time because it's pretty shitty and you might as well go to eBay then.

 Re: Make an offer
My make an offer sales have always been an invitation to lowball.
On a related issue, unfortunately Ebay is becoming a first option. Forget about getting back what you paid for a rare item. People here don't even want to pay retail anymore. Situation's fubar. Question used to be why use Ebay. Question now is why not.

 Re: Make an offer
If a price is listed with "or make an offer" after it, i would think that it's implied that you can offer to pay less.
Only an idiot would offer more if a price is listed.
Wow common sense folks, this isn't rocket science.
And the S7 royalty comment is ridiculous as well. Stop trying to create drama.
If it's the sale I am seeing, it specifically says to make an offer less if you think the price is too high.
On a side note, I am personally in favor of shutting that whole area down for a month (at least) but I haven't been able to convince anyone else. Maybe it's time to revisit this again.

 Re: Make an offer
Yeah I always read it as $XX or to accept a lower price since low-balling is so common.
On a funny side, maybe we should have a low balling thread of who is doing it...would be funny to see who gets the highest points. I can start voting.
Seriously though, sure why you need to close the whole sales thread down (if that is what you mean) I don't see how it will benefit/heal etc. in any way. Maybe have only the people who have been on this board for more than a year to be able to sell anything or trade?

 Re: Make an offer
I'm for it. I want to save money. you guys would be doing me a HUGE favor. maybe I'm not the only one who would like it for this reason.
plus I don't think it would hurt. it would be refreshing! I couldn't tell you how much of my brain power goes into checking the sales, and mulling over deals when they come. It's fun, but it's not the heart of Skullbrain IMO. I'm still going to be here.
and didn't SB close down on account of bitchass-ness once not to long ago? we're just talking about the sales thread.
I'm curious as to what would happen.

I'm curious as to what would happen. That just sounds like you have self control issues but I know what you mean. However I really think if sales thread section needs to be closed the problem won't go away. Sales will go to PM level and it will be worse. I remember I have had some people who are quite active here offer me stuff but I had to nominate my price to beat other members here... insane.

 Re: Make an offer
who here doesn't? what, is it like 2 in the morning in Hong Kong? So, I agree--it doesn't solve any problems, but neither did the shut-down before. still, it was nice to take a breather.

 Re: Make an offer
To clear up my earlier comment- There was a time when "make an offer" was implied as "Rare Toy for sale $200 OR BEST OFFER" which is worded different BUT some tried to use the "make an offer" with a base price the same way. Just like eBay, set a price, than say "bid it up with offers."

Here it's definitely obvious when someone is trying to make a profit/ get over. I say if you looked so hard for that elusive figure why not keep it? On the flip, I've actually looked on ebay a bit more for things because YJA middle man fees/conversion rates suck now. I don't think we should shut the sales section down either, it might encourage people to be shady behind closed doors. General rule of thumb is just to use your own judgement when dealing with people here (feel out the situation) and if you're unsure ask people you know and trust who have been here awhile.

Oh...and can anyone hook me up with that new Boryoku Genjin guy.

I don't understand but may be missing something. Why would you guys want to shut down the For Sale section?
