Post Turn off your mind, relax, and float down stream...
Whatever you are doing on your computer right now, it is not very important. Turn it off. Get up out of your chair. Find the nearest door to the outside. Go outside. Lay down on the ground and look up into the sky. And just stay there thinking about whatever or nothing for 15 or 20 minutes....

I live in the city, if I do that I may end up robbed, or picked up by the local beat cop thinking I'm on drugs !!!

I will though, turn this off, and lay here on the couch in the air conditioning and stare at my toy cases :)

I was out there for nearly an hour, loser that I am though of course I had to take my CD player. Listened to the entirety of Rammstein's Rosenrot. Sang along to almost all of it as well.

Fun :)

I think it's a trick, what's going for sale online in a small run soon? Zollmen? Nagnagnag? CIBOTL exclusives?

Furthermore, I believe EVERYTHING I do is important, but I just think a lot of myself at 6:30am EST, by 7 I'll be loathing, 9:45 my hate starts up and until around 6 it doesn't stop mixed with confusion and sometimes lack of empathy. It's not really until 7pm I start winding down into "let it all go" mode and it's usually because I'm hungry that it kicks in. Once I'm done it's back to everything I do is important and I fall asleep into happiness.

I'm actually outside more than I'm on here....either riding my bike going for walks to parks/waterfalls (toys like to come for photo ops though!) Tonight a huge thunderstorm rolled through Buffalo and I could not resist being outside for it.

Post Re: Turn off your mind, relax, and float down stream...
Years ago I went to the godawful WOMAD festival when it was at Golden Gate Park in SF. Although the "worldbeat" phenomenon was in full swing at the time, there were some acts that were sort of hard not to laugh at for their hippie-dippy We Are All One In The Rainbow deportment. One was L. Shankar, who had made some excellent records and played memorably on tracks by Echo and the Bunnymen (that's him on "The Cutter") and Talking Heads. Unfortunately his live act was more like Hippies on Acid in Bollywood than the Indian classical art rock we expected. There were women who looked like bored Marin housewives in Saris spinning around onstage, throwing glitter, looking all too blissful. I joked to one of my buddies "you just KNOW they're going to do 'Tomorrow Never Knows' at some point." Well they did. It was hilarious. I mean, that is one seriously cool Beatles track and a great relic of its era, but somehow it became the new "Kumbaya" along the way.

A few years later I went with the same friend to see Diamanda Galas with John Paul Jones at the Fillmore. By stark contrast the opening act was Stephen Kent, a didgeridoo player who had made some compelling avant garde music in the duo Lights in a Big City. His solo act was very New Age, though, totally out of whack for the crowd that came to see Diamanda. There was a lot of cynicism in the audience. I turned to my buddy and said "You just KNOW he's going to do 'Tomorrow Never Knows' as an encore." To our shock, he did. Oh man, how we laughed.

A couple of years ago we saw The Good, The Bad, and the Queen. I don't remember the opening act's name, but it was another non-Aboriginal artsy didgeridoo player. You saw this coming ... he played that song too.

So now whenever I see the words turn off your mind relax and float downstream, I don't. I smell cheap patchouli and Nag Champa and want to run away from the Attack of the Giant Paisley Monster.

All that aside, wise words, geotaro.

Post Re: Turn off your mind, relax, and float down stream...
I was out again tonight, but instead went down to my old Elementary school, and laid down around the back kinda by the baseball field. Darker back there than in my front yard, and the ground a little nicer, grass not quite as long nor sharp. Went through Rammstein's Herzeleid.

I saw two shooting stars and two guys walking dogs. The first guy, I noticed while I was still on the ground, walking along the back of the school. I popped out my headphones and we had a quick exchange. When he asked how I was, I said I was alright, just restless.

The second guy, I noticed his dog first. I was just starting to come back up around the corner of the school to go back home, and I thought the dog was a stray as I didn't see a leash. I then heard the guy saying "Bush, bush!" and directing the dog to do its business. He shined a really bright flashlight at me, and I'm pretty sure it was his cell phone I saw open and held to his ear. He asked me if I was looking for the guy with the dog, and said I startled him a little bit coming around the corner.

Why didn't I think to do any of this until the end of the damn Summer?

I don't want to go to college on Monday

You made me realize that if I went and laid behind my old elementary school, I'd probably be robbed, maybe shot.

I guess my real point was just to do a restart and clear you memory caches. For example, if all you think about is "toys" - get away from them, get away from this forum, and cleanse your mind for a while. The "get outside" part was mostly just because there is (usually) no internet or tv there, and, at least for me, connecting with nature is a great soul recharger. I spent last weekend with my honey on a remote beach, with wind, sun, waves, good books, good conversation, fine wine, hardly any clothes (often none - yeah, I know, could be an ugly picture), and great times. Came back roaring for more!

I don't recommend incense, patchouli, or otherwise. Makes everything stink, and is bad for your lungs.

I agree. I believe that one should become a person like other people.
