 Re: what you already know
wearing novelty clothes really annoys the shit out of me. Either you're funny, creative and witty, and you know it and it will come across in conversation, or your not. In which case you wear shirts with "funny" slogans or quirky ties. Which somehow are meant to show the world that you are the life of the party and The Man to entertain, you're wild and crazy - wohay! Back to KW- here's a funny story my mate has about him: http://thequietus.com/articles/00104-black-sky-thinking-kanye-west-sensitive-soulI know I keep plugging tQ, but... only when it's appropriate and this IS entertaining. And who the hell decided that Taylor Swift was country? That's not country! That's easy listening pop. Where's the country in that?

 Re: what you already know
Novelty shirts can make me laugh honestly. Guilty pleasure. But there's no rhyme or reason to which ones will or won't, usually I'm laughing AT the people wearing them too. So I guess I don't find the shirt funny as much as the entire situation. I think it's my defense from killing myself, instead of being annoyed or hating, I laugh at and find the hidden treasure in other peoples dumb-ass-ness. Which is why I love going to Wal-Mart or the airport.

If you follow the lines on his head do you get out of the maze?
But when has rock and roll ever not been about douche bags? This may have not been a class act and I have no idea about this guys music but lets look at the history of rockers dying on their own barf, marrying their 14 yr old cousins, destroying hotel rooms, hiring the hells angels for security, and thanking god for their cribs at every mtv exploitation gig. To much money, coke, and easy pussy makes any man stupid. Or so I would imagine.

At least there was a time when U2 were alternative...ish... they supported the UK Subs This girl is 19, she hasn't had enough time to grow tits let alone have been country. And as annoying as Bono is, there was a time when he was relevant, she seems to have no substance. I still feel bad for her, I think that was an awful thing to do, now I'm just judging her music.

backtrack wrote: At least there was a time when U2 were alternative...ish... they supported the UK Subs Ha! That's the opposite of the alternative they represented the first time I saw them ... opening for the J. Giles Band. Talk about an audience where you could easily tell who was there to see which band! Maybe that was a bad example although I'm sure my implication that U2 is now as mainstream as it gets was clear. I'm just a little cynical about music industry categories, that's all. A lot of what gets called "country" is only called that because of the targeted buyer and radio market demographics, not because it's actually difficult to classify. Same with several other genres.

audiodifficulties wrote: And mtv has always been about substance, please see madonna, etc. Good point. There was a brief moment when they first arrived, when all they could show were those music video movies (mostly on film, not tape) that already existed, and it seemed pretty awesome. In retrospect, what I remember of those sorts of "videos" (e.g. "Tattooed Love Boys" by Pretenders, "Crocodiles" live by Echo and the Bunnymen, even for what it's worth "Girls on Film" by Duran Duran) still hold up better than the made-for-MTV pap that soon came along and had a huge influence on 1980s aesthetics, most of which is unwatchable now. By now this is a total cliche to say, but it's true: The VMA seem like sort of a contradiction given that MTV gave up on music video programming a loooooong time ago. However successful artists kowtow to them anyway, as if.

Biff wrote: And there was also my crush on Martha Quinn There aren't many guys of a certain generation who didn't have a crush on her LOL. Or for some, Nina Blackwood. When I worked for Nick/MTV the personality that everyone respected was Kurt Loder. He had a certain cache because he had already earned respect as an unusually intelligent rock critic prior to the MTV News gig. Moreover, when Michael Jackson contractually stipulated that he must always be referred to as "The King of Pop" on MTV, lest they lose exclusive and premier MJ video broadcast rights, Loder would actually roll his eyes on camera when saying that to indicate his cynicism. Only he could get away with that. Not to dis MJ per se but I think a lot of people in the media have forgotten that the moniker "King of Pop" was invented by Jackson, not something bestowed upon him by the masses a la Elvis as the "King of Rock."
