I want this toy bad. I don't have the means or funds to get it. Keeps the hunger alive.

Re: Got paranoia?
I like this new paint and the 2-faced versions A LOT.
But I'm puzzled about this strange communication plan : either the maker is fond of obscure crafstmanship and just wants to please people living 5 miles away from his home (and become a living legend within weeks) OR he is just nasty and laughs a lot reading all this and watching gaijins becoming crazy about something they have no idea how to get.
I've never seen anything that could encourage more flippers getting all the copies they can grab.
This is sad news for the basic sofubi collector I am...

None of the craziness would work if this wasn't one damn fine piece of vinyl.

Off the top of my head I can think of FOUR other people who post here who've not only handled but OWN at least one of these figures.
Considering we're talking two runs of around ten each time so far, I don't think that's a bad average.

Bad analogy, but its kind of like creating the Monkees to capitalize on the Beatles' popularity. Didn't you just say in another thread... It is tough when you really want something that is not easily accessible or seemingly out of reach. That can lead to hurt feelings, misunderstanding, resentment, and complaining, whether deserved or not. Just because you don't like how he sells his figures does not mean that it is wrong. It is up to the artist to decide what means to use to distribute his or her work.

I guess I don't have any objections to how the toy is being distributed.

But since you brought it up I think you better check your statistics again. "The majority of the cases are occurring in young, previously healthy adults in their mid 20s to mid 40s, reports suggest." "The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology recently said a plausible scenario is that an H1N1 flu (Swine Flu) epidemic this fall and winter could send 1.8 million Americans to the hospital and cause 30,000 to 90,000 deaths, many of these children and young adults." "A new tracking study of the epidemic in Mexico found that the H1N1 flu (Swine Flu) hits those between the ages of 20 and 50 the hardest, with a higher death rate than other age groups."

Re: Got paranoia?
Despite all the crap, when I tear down all the hype/hate/story-until-now type garbage, when I look at the toy for what it is, no pretentions, I really like it.
To say I'm turned off just due to the whirlwind of events following it's pics would be wrong and denying myself of the truth. Why is it acceptable for people to say "I dislike it because it's overhyped" vs. "I only like it due to the hype?" To me that's saying the same thing which is "I am basing my opinion on a physical object and whether or not I find it visually appealing on the opinions of others, both postitive and negative." That's understandable, but that's also lame and a load of crap.
I haven't even read half of this thread since around page 4, the situation is offsetting, I don't care to put so much time investing into begging people for info or hookups, etc. I like the toy a lot, though. I find it very visually appealing and I feel, in hand, it'd be even cooler to pick up and play with. Also the paint jobs seem cool so far, as well.
If I come across one some day I'd be really happy, but like many, I'm not really willing to go nuts and feed into the hype, either on a positive or negative frequency. I also took the "FUSA" foot stamp as a joke, which made me laugh. Maybe it's not, maybe it's a hype-device, even so it still makes me laugh particularly due to the reactions it causes.
"Yawn" on the situation/boo-hooing/wink-wink-nudge-nudging. "HOORAH!" on the figure itself.

Re: Got paranoia?
How is it possible to construe "FUSA" as a joke?
It is not a "ha, ha" joke with a punchline. Is it a joke just because it is trying so hard to be outrageous? Or what?

Alice is the official brand name Nag Nag Nag ? people are quiet about what they own now because they would get 900 pm's from people with no respect asking them to sell it. i don't see why people have to post everything they own online anyway... i know one other person who has one of these and digs it. that's enough for me.

It is not a "ha, ha" joke with a punchline. Is it a joke just because it is trying so hard to be outrageous? Or what? I see it as a joke in a meaner spirit, it could be partially something like "there's a lot of US collectors of this stuff now, what would get a rise?" and if that's the case those getting "a rise" out of it are playing into more than anyone. The joke wins. It might not be, though, I find insult humor pretty funny. I say things like "fuck you ugly" to my friends all the time, you don't even wanna hear what my wife says to me! I think the joke, however, is more of the "I wanna get a rise out of people" and it's working. I'm just laughing with it, takes a lot more than some poor taste and an insult to get me to go "HOW RUDE! huffpuffhuff!" In the case it's NOT, and the guy really is saying "FUCK THE USA!" than I also laugh at it. We're the country that's supposed to be the ones who are crass and loud and closed minded and stereotype everything/everyone yet that statement stereotypes the whole country. It, in itself, is being what it so boldly hates. It's mirroring the things about us it loaths, and becomes what "we" are. So the jokes on him, he's being what he hates, hahahaha, makes me laugh. I always laugh when people tell me stuff like "They hate Americans in other countries and treat them like crap, can you blame them?" and I say "YES I totally blame them!" To stereotype ME and others the way you might feel Americans do to you is being just the same. Set the example of how to act in which you'd wish for Americans to act towards you if you feel so strongly about it. Don't just mirror the bullish behavior you hate. It's equally as ignorant. I feel if someone wants to hate me, hate ME, not my nationallity. BUT that's another discussion for another thread.

Re: Got paranoia?
Well, if it is a joke, it doesn't work for me.
My take is that it is just trying to be "outrageous" to get a rise, trying to be "cool", trying to be "punk" trying to appeal to the 15 to 20 something male demographic. It reminds me of the kind of stuff middle schoolers yell at cars driving by because it makes them feel like they are doing something "dangerous" and forbidden when in reality it is just stupid and immature.
Again, to me this is contrived like Kozik's smoking figures, anarchy symbols, hate mottos, etc. (though I will say that this figure has vastly greater appeal to me from just an aesthetic standpoint than any of Frank's figures ever did).
I think the examples you provided like saying stuff to your friends is a whole different context - good friends do that to each other all the time.
Also, the problem with the don't hate my country, hate me argument is that most people aren't that discriminating and like to stereotype. Unfortunately, a lot of people without a highly developed sense of humor and satire (like you ☺ ) will just be happy to take FUSA at face value.
(I know you are funny Blood - you kept me in stitches and highly entertained while we were waiting in line at TK2.)
