i was thinking of putting all the toys back into their baggies (or wrapping them in bubble wrap if they have no baggy) and placing them inside of a box (or preferably one (two) of those plastic tubs) with the unpainted toys at the bottom, and the toys i am worried about most at the top.

am i over doing it? what have yous done?

I'm actually doing the same thing right now, just bought a load of poly bags, putting one toy in each and packing them all in a big cardboard box. I think if it's standard v-colour on vinyl then there won't be any trouble with scratching, but some customs could suffer a bit, depending on what clear coats have been used?

For Vinyl, we bought many large rubbermaid tubs and lots of rolls of paper towels. wrapped each toy in the paper towel and layered them carefully in the bins.

For Dolls, I put them back in original boxes & packing materials and re-used the bins from the vinyl move (luckily we were just moving over the river about 10 miles so that was an option. if not, get lots of bins!)

I placed mine back in their bags and wrapped some in bubble wrap and placed them in big card board boxes. I was only moving about a mile so it wasn't too bad.

For most of them I just bagged them separately and put them in a box.
The ones I was worried about, I added an extra layer of butcher paper to separate and cushion them.

Lots of zip lock bags from Costco.

I use bubble wrap since they come in handy as they are reusable or when they are in the box a long time you don't have to worry too much about weight pressing on the ones on the bottom of the boxes.

when I moved from Tokyo back to the States...I just wrapped them in bubble wrap and put them all in thick boxes (just one per group, not double boxed). Those boxes then went in my suitcases. I never have any problems with that...so moving by car/truck/etc should be fine with just bubble wrap and one thick cardboard box.

IKEA has those huge clear plastic bins with a top. i bubble my stuff, put them in, threw in some newspaper for snug fit and taped the top closed on the bin

i wrapped my toys in t-shirts... i figured, i'm moving my shirts too

i got double wall box's theyr much stronger and much less likeley to crush, and got some cardboard dividers, kindof like for cups or something, and wrapped each one in a piece of newspaper, put one or two in each section, and stacked with cardboard layers between each divider setup thingy. no issues whatsoever. moved from jersey to fl and had a moving company handle them. got my detolfs down in in one piece also. put em on a layer of crunched paper in a wardrobe box, with pillows inside and crumbled paper surrounding as well. everythings safe : )

I'm just glad this was posted, as I'm packing to move right now. Sounds like a lot of similarities but with a few variations, all good advice though. Thanks.

Just avoid news paper, i just grabbed a bunch of free papers, most of my toys I put in their bags, but a few ones with boxes I didn't feel like boxing up and just wrapped in paper. Ink rubbed off and I was scrubbing for a while to get them clean.

I just wrapped all my toys in clothes, stuffed them in a big rubbermaid deal and used more clothes as extra padding. 2 for 1 deal, clothes and toys. Booyah!

Just throw them in a bin bag and hope for the best

Toss them all into a big burlap sack with no padding...it gives them all a cool vintage look when you arrive.

I use those large rubbermaid tubs. When I moved I started individually wrapping each one in bubble wrap but then became annoyed with the slow progress, so I just began buffering toys with newspaper or towels. Anything soft the cushion movement will do.

always had bubbles inside and flat surface outside,
but was told never to have bubbles on stuff u are wrapping
because they could easily rub down paint, etc.

oh thats bad, i should have mentioned it was the blank packing newspaper i guess!

For a move/storage I:

1. bubblewrap each figure
2. get a big sterilite/rubbermaid tub w/ lid
3. pour just enough packing peanuts to cover the bottom, then put a large sheet of BIG bubblewrap over that
4. start putting figures in (no-paints/ hefty figures first, or figures without pointy parts)
5. pour packing peanuts to fill in the gaps around the sides to even out.
6. add another large sheet over the figures
7 more figures/packing peanuts/big bubble wrap/more figures/packing peanuts/big bubble wrap/etc

it's a lot of work, but I'm really careful with my vinyl stuff (sixty bucks a fig--you better believe it!). plus the extra cushioning is great if you think they might have to stay packed for a while; gravity will kick in before long.

Bubble wrap for sure, its like 8 dollars a roll at home depot and it is perfortated so you don't need scissors and secure with a small piece of tape didn't bother bagging anything. I moved 200 figures for about 40 bucks without a problem. It's more pricey than other means of packing, but when you take in the cost to replace one figure it is worth it. Target has big plastic halloween bins that are orange with black lids that are pretty awesome too and come in at 5 bucks. Just use whatever to fill in gaps so nothing shifts much and you should be golden.

Be careful with bubble wrap. I packed a custom toy in bubble wrap, only to have it pock-marked with bubbles when I un-wrapped it after the move. Definitely, the less time in the box the better, with the customs on the top, loosely packed. Maybe the smooth side of the bubble wrap should be on the inside?

haha! that's exactly what i did.
ziploc bagged them, and then put a shirt or two between each layer of figs inside rubbermaid containers.

and someone had mentioned paper towels. i don't think that would be a good idea for stuff like bwana customs (mildly sticky/tacky paint apps), unless you want to add a fuzzy touch.

yeah. I wrap mine with the bubbles outward--smooth side against the toy.
