Post Monsters or Robots?
I dunno if anyone has ever done a poll like this, but considering the things discussed here I'd think its fair to say that Robots and Monsters are near and dear to most everyone here... But which do you prefer more? Monsters or Robots?

Post Re: Monsters or Robots?
Good question...

Robots are creepy in a sterile, AI, terminator-esque quality. I think they appeal to the man vs. machine (our own creations) mythos. Generally, they are almost unstoppable and either emotionless or psychotic. All fantastic points in my book.....

but

Monsters can really run the gamut from mutated person (corrupted versions of ourselves) to hideous creature of unknown or ancient origin. I feel the door is kicked open a little wider for the monster set, because of this. Tragic accidents, broken hearts, pure evil, etc. can manifest itself in countless forms, rituals, and stories. I've always liked the historical instead of futuristic vibe: stuff like the Elder Gods, Kraken, Wendigo, aliens, vampires, bigfoot, nessie, etc. I think that belief is more easily suspended when we have inspiration like current or extinct species, genetic engineering, medical sciences, not to mention the realm of ethereal, "unseen" forces.

So, until hms commissions a custom from me....

make mine monster!

Hmm. I figure since Kaiju is the focus Monsters would win out, but I was just wondering. I suppose on CollectionDX the poll results would be slightly different. ;) That being said, I had to place my vote for Robots- And its not even the unstoppable killing machine variety, I like my robots with charm and character:

G1 Transformers, Beast Wars Transformers (Dinobot and Rampage alone are worth watching the entire series) Voltron, Jet Jaguar, Short Circuit , gunbuster (although there could be an arguement over robots vs. mechs pilotsed by humans), C-3p0 & R2D2, Mazinger, Getter Robos (even though I don't know much about the last two, the designs always appealed to me).

Robots are the bomb.

I lean towards monsters BUT vintage style looking robots (heater, mad baron etc etc) are really cool too. Is there a "both" option?

Wow, this is tough. If it's posed as just "monsters vs robots" in a vacuum, with no further dialog to influence the vote I'd have to go "robot". The two "ideas" (ideas, because for me they aren't tangible...yet) that are most near and dear to me are robots and space.
But I own more monster toys than robot toys. I'd certainly love to own more robot toys though...if anyone wants to send me a blue Mad Baron I'd be very happy to receive it.

Monsters. A monster could have robotic parts, but a robot is always a robot.

What if it's 40% monster 60% robot? Than it's REALLY a robot, I mean, as long as the brain is a CPU not a monster brain.

how come cute lil' thug stance bunnies with random artists "street" "art" covering it isn't an option?

j/k.
i totally went with monsters.
my monster (or straight kaiju) collection out-weighs my transformers at least 4 to 1, so that tells me my preferences....

Its funny - I ask my kids this question ALL the time! I have a very large robot collection, but a much more modest kaiju collection. They always answer the kaiju, but then again these are set up in their room, so they see them every day. Also, they've seen a lot more kaiju movies and shows than bots. I'm kinda torn between the two, and my preference sways often.

Monsters, and not exclusivly "kaiju" either. I like robots, and they can be presented from many angles and sides (evil/good/thoughtless/insightful/clean/junkpiles) but I never get as interested in them as monsters. I think maybe because monsters have less "rules." I know there REALLY aren't any for robots, but there is at least 1- They HAVE to be mechanical SOMEHOW to actually be a robot. As where monsters there really are NO rules.

Also when robots kill/attack humans, it's usually kind of the same few reasons. Monsters need no reasons, but when the get them they seem more varried. More freedom I guess in monsters, design and character wise, that's why I enjoy them more.

Frankensteins monster is ALMOST a robot, so he's a nice bridge. He's like a robot made from dead human parts instead of metal and wires.

Bender RULES! I've tried to get my wife to let me name our first born son - should we ever decide to have kids, and have a son - Bender. She's resistant, but has okayed Homer. Bender, Homer and Fry are my top 3 favorite characters.

Just make sure his middle name is "Rodriguez." I think I can persuade my wife into using Zoidberg one day. Maybe Scruffy.
