Fighting for, just worded slightly archaically. Roger wrote: audiodifficulties wrote: I'm sorry, but both sides are fighting the causes of the rich. Really? Because I thought that both sides do a pretty good job of preserving the fortunes of the rich.

Agreed. It's just that the right does such a staggering job of getting people to go against their own self interests. Fervently, at that. The Tea Party thing is the best example.

Re: Sarah Palin Book Signing - Interviews With Her Minions
I think the problem in this country is that all causes have been already coopted by large non associated causes, with no chance of third parties really making their mark nationally. The tea parties would be a good idea if they were not attached to the version of the republican party that gave us the Bush years... but then I'm a big fan of Rand myself.

I've been to one of those tea parties. They boo most Republicans as much as they do Democrats.

Re: Sarah Palin Book Signing - Interviews With Her Minions
I get the impression, the 'Teabaggers' are much bigger fans of the Reagan Years than they are of the Bush years. I don't think they ever got over Bush I's reneging on his 'Read my Lips. No New Taxes" promise, and we all know what they think of the most recent Bush fiasco...

"suppose that we do drill, and not just for oil but for gas" "we need to get the polar bears off the endangered list so that we can drill there"

Re: Sarah Palin Book Signing - Interviews With Her Minions
"It's just that the right does such a staggering job of getting people to go against their own self interests. Fervently, at that."
Originally I thought this had to do with old-guard conservative values regarding fiscal prudence, ostensibly a good thing. During the Reagan years however it became evident that people thought that the GOP was the "classy" party (ironically, of the elite) and that by associating with "the conservative revolution" they were "the better people." Now they think they're "the real Americans," a nasty divisive and inherently un-American concept, and paint Democrats with the broad "liberal" brush, as if liberty, liberation, education and reason are flaws rather than virtues.
If nothing else the fact that both the Dubya and Obama administrations supported massive bailouts to banks without accountability proves the contention that both parties are maintaining the status quo for the most elite of the elite.
However, despite the tortured mangling of political history that the "teabagger" sort of wingnuts indulge when misusing phrases like "fascism" and "communism" interchangeably with nary a clue as to what the words really mean, the fact is that the GOP remains the more fascistic of the parties.
It surprises me that there isn't more discussion of Sarah and Todd Palin's involvement in the AIP, given that secession is technically illegal (and hardly the imperative of anyone who actually believes "united we stand") and moreover, given that group's connections to white supremacist groups.
The "sexy librarian MILF" image is perfect for the face of American neo-fascism. Easier on the eyes than Reagan and the Bushes, that's for sure, and gosh darn it, doesn't she just sound like one of us real American folks?

I think she meant natural gas.

Yes, you can get natural gas by drilling for it.

Re: Sarah Palin Book Signing - Interviews With Her Minions
Hadn't considered that at all, I guess I haven't really heard that as an issue and assumed she was reffering to petrolium based gas. Good call. The polar bear comment still makes me sad and the whole video makes me ill.
