um, why? 10x retail on a run of 30 is sort of ridiculous imho.

Tell that to people who use excuses like "art" and "grail" to bid things up to those prices and than think it's ok. Here let's try something like "It is a small price to pay for such a fantastic piece of art! It was my grail for so long and now I own it so now it was worth it LOL!"

Flavour of the Month again?

If someone wants it bad enough and has the $$$, good luck to 'em . . . we've all overpaid for this junk at some time, who's to say where the price vs desirability cut-off point is!

I suppose one could make the argument less is more.

23 fight figures at retail or one bid up Goga.

Considering every Kaws toy worth owning goes for a grand on E-bay, and those are runs of what? 300, 500? So the idea of a thousand dollar toy isn't that absurd any more. Unfortunately the truth is, there are some ballers out there, and when toys like that come up, they're going to bid big. If I had money to burn, I can't say I wouldn't be do doing the same.

Another thing to consider is that very few of these will ever hit the open market because they are firmly locked into people's collections. Although a run of 30 may seem high, especially for a Goga, I doubt you'll see many come up for sale.

I'm a bit surprised the HP Bemon went for LESS (barely)! I dunno, a 1 of a kind vs. a run of 30 (though still hard to get and both have awesome paint jobs.) I'm not sure if I expected the Goga to go less or the Bemon for more. I'd consider trading my HP Bemon if it was for a 1-off Goga, I get the appeal, Goga's a happening and charming guy. I just assumed the 1-off would go higher.

I think this thing hit like $900 after 2 days or something too, someone worked fast to start bidding this guy up.

as tim mentioned, I doubt you're going to see too many of them coming up for sale. using the "run of 30" excuse is a bit absurd in this situation because I can think of 4 or 5 (probably a lot more than that, but I'm being practical) that will never leave the hands of the owners. i also don't think a lot of people have any idea of how cool of a project it was, and how many people were involved in making something completely community driven. truth be told, it made me very sad to see it on ebay.
yes people can do what they want with toys they own, but i can also have my own thoughts on it.

i have a one off goga i picked up in Japan earlier this year. Yes it was from a run of a certain number of blue base figures, but each paint app is different so I consider it one of a kind. People scoffed at me and went so far as to refer to me as the "crazy foreigner" because of what I paid for it. It was a steal IMO, and has an incredible story to back it up.

Price is relative in any situation. The old adage goes "Buy what you like". I think people here could spend their money on some great expensive figure, but I think too many focus on the hot in the moment toy and can't save long enough to "afford it". Patience is key. I don't think that exists much in the "gimme gimme" atmospehere that the hobby seems to have now.

I didn't know that! Are most Goga runs like that? Same base vinyl, unique paint job? I know I've seen pics that ellude to that but was never really sure, thanks for the info!

I'm looking at this picture in Joe's wanted thread as an example.
Image

Top two on the left, bottom row on the far left.

Those are blue base vinyl. They're all different. In addition, when I posted photos of mine, the paint varies from another that a friend owns from that run. So unless someone else can verify, I think they're all slightly different.

happy hunting completists.

Oooooh boy. I know I've seen pics of others, too, that match the black or blue vinyl base with different paint apps. Crazy good stuff, makes me want one more!

Ed is spot on.
I think Anraku more than others tends to be really loose with his painting on figures.
He may have a particular paint scheme but tends to have more fun and be experimental with it unlike let's say a Gargamel or RxH release that are purposely the same in color placement / design. Most of his figures truly are one of a kind.
