 70 Minute Fan Review of...
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Trust me. However strongly or disaffectedly you feel about that movie, you'll probably get a kick out of this brilliantly executed (and funny) fan analysis of everything wrong with the film, and by extension, the prequels in general and their effect on the SW legacy. I don't know how long the Skywalker suits are going to let this thing stay up at YouTube so I'm downloading the whole thing in case it suddenly vanishes. Yeah, it's 70 minutes long total, but worthwhile. Enjoy: Phantom Menace Review

Re: 70 Minute Fan Review of...
That was amazing, in the end he talks about how the whole thing felt too sterile, clean, no human emotion. That was my biggest gripe with the prequels. Held me at attention the entire time.

This man should win every film award ever and be allowed to go back and re-write/direct Episodes I-III and legally have his name changed to George Lucas and get all of the real George Lucas' stuff/money/family.

The guy who did this is awesome. I first discovered him this past summer when I stumbled upon his Star Trek: Generations review. This though is epic. I doubt he'll get a takedown notice. It's all original enough to fall into fair-use and criticism. This guy rocks!

Re: 70 Minute Fan Review of...
Maybe it won't get taken down. I just usually assume that unauthorized use of SW movies yields a "cease and desist" order but really, it's too late to keep the masses from seeing it anyway. This thing has gone "viral" and I'm sure lots of people are saving it. Glad you guys liked it. I probably should have warned about the grim/un-PC humor in it but it sounds like nobody was offended, at least I hope not. You know what amazed me? As much as he deconstructed hundreds of things wrong with the plot, characters, and mythos, there was still so much more that he didn't even touch. I was happy that he talked about something that I've always found fascinating: How scared everyone acts in George Lucas' presence and that the flaws occur because nobody dares say "this is a bad idea" to him. If what I'm told is true, people who do that tend to find themselves laid off the next day. When I was shown around Skywalker Ranch a few years ago, my host said "George is here today, so if you see him, please don't make eye contact or indicate that you recognize him." We didn't see him though.

We didn't see him though. I heard a similar story from a friend who visited the Skywalker Ranch about 10 years ago. They were in the cafeteria and saw the beardo sit down at a cafeteria table... ALONE... He didn't want anyone near him and nobody came up to him, so he just likes "Being one of the guys..." while an invisible shield of "You cannot talk to me!" surrounds him.

Re: 70 Minute Fan Review of...
Slashdot had some good discussion about this: http://entertainment.slashdot.org/story ... enace-NSFWOne thing about the looks on the production crew's faces that were pointed out: I have a friend who worked at Lucasfilm during the production of Episode 1 and she said people were unbelievably stressed out there because they had a tremendous amount of effects work to deliver in an extremely short amount of time. Integrating the CGI characters like Watto and Jar-Jar into the film and making them look realistic had never been accomplished before, at least at the level that Episode 1 was aiming for. And they had something like only a year and a half to accomplish these things. I believe that the rest of the prequels had an even shorter development cycle for the CGI.

Re: 70 Minute Fan Review of...
Thanks for posting . . . I was hoping he would do the other films too. Unfortunately this is not as brilliant as his The Phantom Menace review. (Or were my expectations too high?! But I think this is more of a rant than a deconstructive observation.) Anyway, it is still awesome. Thanks again!

Re: 70 Minute Fan Review of...
I liked it as much. A lot of what he WOULD cover he really already did in the first. There was a lot to breakdown. The parts where characters seemed to "know" things that they weren't told like Padme knowing Dooku was going to a hangar. How? It's never said?! Also the forced "romance" was a good rip too.

It's great that he sounds like Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs... Especially in the basement where the kids left shit in his plastic bin.
Best review ever.
