Post Nurse With Wound
Any fans?
Just got Paranoia in HI-FI and if you don't have it, its a 74 track cut out of their works over the past 30 years. I have seen it online for $10 and it still worth it but I have purchased mine for $5(cover price 99p UK) at my local record store and I am sure most places have it around that much.

Seriously good stuff

I think there are only a handful of toy collectors into this sort of music.

Pogue likes Psychic TV but mostly the acid house stuff.

I like a wide variety but I think you know that already.

Besides me and you, anyone else a fan of this type of music?

MEEEEEEEE

Though I'm a bigger current 93 fan than Nurse With Wound. The stuff by them I like, I really like, but there is a lot I'm not so into.

one of those bands i've encountered throughout the years but have never spent alot of time with... a crash course would be awesome... thanks for the heads up.

yeah, though i tend to use it more as a tool while working on art... pairing experimental records & film to see how they interact for inspiration or exploration of ideas... basically the darkside of oz type of thing

That would be me. I have been a fan of Genesis P-Orridge and David Tibet for quite some time. My interest in Psychic TV and before them Throbbing Gristle led me to the Durtro music site and groups like NWW and Current 93. I've always been a fan of artists that push the limits of their craft in all the arts. It probably began for me with people like John Cage, Terry Riley, and John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra. Later there were bands like Einstürzenden Neubauten, SPK, and Cabaret Voltaire. Now, other than groups under the Durtro umbrella, I follow a lot of DIY experimental stuff that is preformed then packaged and released by those same artists. People like Sleepwalkers Local 242, Thousands, The North Sea, and Stone Baby. Many of these can be found on the House of Alchemy website... http://www.thehouseofalchemy.com/

Imagine that! :)

Paranoia is a good sampling of work but most tracks are like 1 minute, makes good for random play and it truly shows how they really run the spectrum for sound and music. It does make a good introduction for the genre not just NWW

I was never a C93 fan, something about his voice, I prefer Death In June and other stuff like Der Blutharsh
I got more into in when the newer version of 'hardcore" got big in the mid 90s

Tibet's voice can be trying at best sometimes, but the older noiser stuff you don't notice it as much.

Caught them live at queen's hall, was an amazing show in more of the spoken wordish classically oriented section, recorded live as either "halo" or "live at the queen elizabeth" with different art work.

Hard to ignore there put put, along with the likes of controlled bleeding, and some on invisible such as dead voices on air, etc etc.
Depending on what you get into.

early 70s faust.

'nuff said.

(faust are the only reason I really know about NWW...they did an album together a few years ago.)

btw - people actually do listen to this kind of music. more than you'd think.

I'm a big NWW fan and was able to see them in SF in 2006.

Some of my favorite discs:

Soliloquy for Lilith (this is in the more experimental ambient sound scape style)

Rock n Roll Station (a good intro disc for someone unfamiliar with them and much different than the above disc)

Acts of Senseless Beauty (with Aranos)

A Missing Sense

An Awkward Pause

Octopus (Steven Stapleton with David Tibet)

Bright Yellow Moon (NWW and Current 93)

Huffing Rag Blues (a fun sort of Lounge album)

Fan since the "Chance Meeting" cassette back in the day. Steven's one of the best avant-garde sound artists ever IMHO. Can't say I follow the releases as closely these days but thank you for the tip ... I'll hunt for the compilation.

Pogue likes the PTV acid house stuff? Hahahaha we gotta talk next time I see you Glenn. 8)

I loved all the OG Industrialists but Coil was God.

I like this kind of stuff, but mainly the long-form drone type of thing. their album Salt Marie Celeste from a few years back is great. I also love the Hafler Trio and all the Jonathan Coleclough-related projects.

A little dramatic, but the 2 albums I have I still love.

Got mine last week. Pretty surreal watching my daughter messing with the pitch and rocking out to Hamburger Lady.

And surely all the weirdos don't listen to this type of music.

Tinnitus FTW...

I never really got into Nurse With Would (no particular reason why, just...didn't) but I used to love Current 93.

Until one day I was listening to Thunder Perfect Mind and the song "Rosy Star Tears From Heaven" was on. My brother was visiting, heard the lyrics about various dragons rising in various places, etc and just very nonchalantly said "What the hell is this guy talking about? There ain't no dragons rising anywhere."

And as crazy as it sounds, it almost completely killed the band for me. I still like them and listen to them on occasion, but I just don't hear them the same as I used to. A part of my imagination died in that very moment.

Proof that words can hurt.

Also recommended: earlier German electronic stuff like Cluster (go for the first two LPs) and very early Kraftwerk (two German LPs before Radioactivity) Big influence on Throbbing Gristle and Nurse With Wound.

BTW, are the Throbbing Gristle LPs reissued on vinyl? I'd love to have nice fresh 180-gram pressings of 'em.

Fuck yeah, nothing beats the first 2 Cluster records and the first Harmonia record...

Am I the only one that thinks Stapleton lost it after Rock N Roll Station? Seems like the next 10 records were all culled from those sessions so I got bored and gave up.

Other artists from that genre that I still love...Organum/David Jackman, HNAS/Mirror/Christoph Heemann, etc. Mirror might be the best of all and Heemann is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Not an ounce of pretense. I met him in Koln about 15 years ago, and despite never having met him before he handed me about 20 LPs - Cluster/Neu! original pressings, uber-rare NWW/Organum/Krautrock and Neu Deutsche Welle vinyl, etc. The guy basically gave me about $1000 worth of vinyl like it was a sticker or a cup of coffee.

I really like the new Space Music disc. It makes me think of a disastrous space mission that has gone wrong (the way it starts out quiet, there is the noisy bit, then just a long quiet part until the end of the disc).

NWW is cool. I think I'm more into Skullflower-y type of noise stuff though.

I got the TG Grief reissue on the heavy vinyl like 10 years ago, great stuff if you can find it. I do love the NWW Space Music release and I have been spinning the Gas Huffing Blues a lot recently
