So as not to be general, the next time the urge to drop $500 on an Anraku/Bemon/Maza arises, give the money to a food bank, instead. My point is that just because someone drops $40,000 on something useless, doesn't mean they need to be more socially responsible than the person dropping $500 on something useless.

I agree, I never said anyone NEEDED to be anything. I said I wasn't really judging totally either. What I'm commenting on is how much more apparant these issues seem the higher priced the useless item is. It gets me thinking, and I hope others. hillsy, I don't know if you're misreading some attitude in my post or not, but whatever, forget it, sorry (really, not "sorry" in a snotty tone, seriously, I apologize) if you did and somehow I offend you in some personal way. hillsy11 wrote: Very well. Re: and how's that for an ending bid...
Nope, not offended. I just think it's hypocritical for us to suggest others could spend their money in a better way (and yes, "But $40,000.00 could, ya know, help feed a needy kid. Or pay for some childs medical bills." implies you think that this person could be spending their money in a better way). That's it.

Re: and how's that for an ending bid...
I am implying that the buyer could be spending their money in a better way. By doing that I'm not implying that myself, or anyone else here, can't as well. There's no hypocrisy. I don't think I ever said anything along the lines of "I'm awesome and make fantastic financial choices while this fool spends his money like a moron!"
It's not so appearant when we buy, say, 1 $10 CD once a week. That builds up after time but we never look back and calculate the full collection and get the persepective. But when that large amount of money is spent on 1 item, nothing even of use (car/shelter/food/etc.) it kinda kicks the point home in the balls.
Again, my thought on the subject is that it really sheds some light and perspective on these types of things due to the large amount of money spent.
Anyway, however I spun my words/thoughts, it seems you misunderstood, and maybe others did too. I'm sorry, and I'm trying to get us back on the same page, which I honestly think we are (most of us commenting here are.) If you took my comments as me judging someone else without judging myself first, I'm sorry, not what I'm doing/meant but I see how some of the things said can come off like that.

They could have bought a Goga and had a couple of bucks left over for the dollar menu at McDonald's.

Re: and how's that for an ending bid...
She made the dolls herself, as well as designed, crafted and painted the actual doll made out of porcelain. Also the dresses etc too. I forwarded this to BJD collectors and they said her work is well known and very much respected in the field. In this case too its a one off. She probably spent many months or more doing this. Its strange to read people's comments here... when other toy collectors who see what prices go for kaiju probably have the same reaction. Analysing why someone would pay for this is just stupid, ironic and we shouldn't judge like that. Though, I think this is more art than "toy". For me, her work is truly beautiful and jaw dropping in skill and highly imaginative. I really think she was surprised at the price it ended at given the prices she sells for production run on her site. I am sure if we had that much cash in our pockets, we wouldn't hesitate to buy...given that everyone here on this board spends whatever spare change they can find.

I think that is a gross over generalization. kidclam wrote: I am sure if we had that much cash in our pockets, we wouldn't hesitate to buy...given that everyone here on this board spends whatever spare change they can find.

Re: and how's that for an ending bid...
I recall visiting her website when this auction posting first got made (and locked) and her base pricing for custom dolls is under $2,000.00 (Canadian!). Does this doll really have an additional $38,000.00 of 'customization' to it? or is it just some crazed ebay fanatick that got caught up in the moment of bidding and overpaid. (been there done that). Her previous customers must be jumping for joy right now.

Re: and how's that for an ending bid...
nothing wrong with tits or porn or donald duck. i think im not prude, but dolls - normally representing babies or young girls made for children to play with - with explicit detailed … made for grown ups, looks wrong, simply annoying to me. creepy territory indeed. why bring this topic up again anyway since the other thread was locked.

Re: and how's that for an ending bid...
The other thread got looked for totally off topic reasons.
I agree the whole painted genitalia creeps me out, especially the detail on some of the other dolls.

alifeintoys wrote: why bring this topic up again anyway since the other thread was locked. I just wanted people to see what the ending bid was.. I do however love seeing how this doll has made everybody on edge a bit and really enjoyed seeing everyones comments and reactions.. it's funny how some people find it creepy and pervy and then some people find it beautiful and enchanting.. no pun intended per the Enchanted Doll website I personally find myself always digging on female artist's like Camilla d'Errico.. Krista Huot.. Pooka Machine.. Lostfish.. Kukula.. just to name a few, and love how they often portray these lost or innocent looking girls in darker settings.. I'm not a pedophile nor do I find little girls attractive, I just like how the artist's are not afraid to touch base on a kids thought process or the fantasy worlds we all dived into as children be it divulged from something that scared the pants off you in a scary movie or just daydreaming about how one might view the world from youths eyes. in any case it has been a very interesting thread and thank you for not locking it down again... cheers to you "whatever" mods...!!!

Ya, this is true. There is a creapyness to them, but personally feel there is a enough of a distance between childrens toy and adult collectible here. I think they are amazing and am glad to have them brought to my attention.

They remind me of Mark Ryden's work a little bit.
