 Re: Ron English's Lucy
this toy is awesome for all the reasons stated above.
its a big screw you to the unoffendable post-post-modern mind. it evokes disgust and disdain from an accumulated pop culture adoration. by expressing this non-religious blasphemous profanity in the form of a toy (or idol figure), his goal seems blatantly to provoke his audience. no one would reasonably claim that this toy is "sexy" like a Bode babe is. more interesting than the toy itself is the question of what composes the boundaries, rules and content of that communal sensibility that he successfully provokes from his disturbed, Schulz-loving audience.
the provocation of religion is now old hat; the mockery and exultation of death is no longer shocking and gross horror brings big bucks at the box office and the t-shirt retailer. with the commodification of indecent thought, there is little new ground for the artist or author to traverse. so how do you offend a public who is immune to the traditional ills, vices and fears of modern humanity?
shoot your pain straight towards those small pieces of childhood that are still held sacred.
ron english, this may be your best attempt at transferring your content to toy. do i want one? no thank you, i still have to introduce my girlfriend to our new custom sunguts Fetish Mode monster which will be tough. also this is legitimately disturbing to look at.

 Re: Ron English's Lucy
In a world where videos like 2 girls and a cup go viral and are seen by the entire world its sexuality seems tame. Besides have you seen all the dirty anime girl statues out there come on... To me, Peanuts is a great cartoon but it's not iconic (maybe Charlie Brown, maybe). I get he did the grin, and this falls in line with the Peanuts themed figures. But it's almost like he was watching tv one day and flipped past the Great Pumpkin and just thought to himself what if I give lucy an ass and boobs and that led to what if the boobs look like Snoopy. I'd rather have a Big Booty Babe figure.

"the provocation of religion is now old hat"
I don't know. I think if English did an unflattering rendition of Mohammed; there would be some offended people.

 Re: Ron English's Lucy
My bigger issue goes beyond themes. Ron English paintings are amazing both in content and craft. His toys lose all of that.(McSupersize is the only exception to this)
