Congrats. I was watching that auction and it was definitely worth it. I've seen one on Mandarake for $300 with slightly darker brown spray. Don't know if there are variant sprays or not.

Some people romanize the name as "Plastic Seijin."

no, the one at morphy's was won by me. i was watching that auction as the seller also had a tiger seven with gloves. she also had a giant sized yonezawa red baron that caused quite a stir a couple of weeks ago. nice score greg, im glad it went to someone on the board.

Wow at the end price on that guy. Anyone know what year that piece would been from? Are we talking 70s?

always curious if the darker one on clubT and this one would be considered variants or just painting fading. Looks too different to be just fading though.

I think its just super faded and used. I just got it today and its so much better in person! I love it. Even though it has some unidentifiable crust in it!

It looks nice to me. This site seems to list them as different versions.

These toys are gettin' on 40 years old! Don't underestimate the power of fading!

There was some talk recently on TBDX about a mythical orange variant of the PA-64 Bazoler chogokin toy. One of us got our hands on one and we checked it out. It's just some bizarre chemical reaction of the plastic to something in the air, sunlight, weed smoke in the air...time...whatever.

Some people romanize the name as "Plastic Seijin."

Image

They're right and wrong at the same time; The name of the creature is derived from the word "Plastic", but it's a corruption of that word. The official Japanese designation for the creature (taken from the title of the episode) is 「プラスチック怪人 プラチク星人」-- the first word in katakana is the type of monster it is: プラスチック is the Japanese rendering of the word "Plastic" as "Purasuchikku". The second katakana word is the name of the creature プラチク or "Purachiku", which drops the "su" (as in elongated "s" in "plastic", and shortens チック or "chikku" from "tic") to チク (or "chiku"). In romanizing the name in English to preserve the original writer's intent, I rendered it as "Platik". A Star Trek-style variant would be "Pla'tik". BTW, the corresponding kanji I left out were 怪人 (lit. Strange Man/Weird Man/Monster Man, etc.). In the case of this episode the word "Mutant" fits perfectly. The second kanji is 星人 (lit. "Star Man"), but would be "Space Man" or "Alien" in English. So, this creature's whole name would be "Alien Platik: The Plastic Mutant".

Whomever put up that eBay auction actually used the information I posted on another thread, verbatim -- "Alien Platik (Purachiku Seijin) from Episode 30 of ULTRA SEVEN (1967 - 68) Made by Bullmark 1971" -- which is cool, because at least the proper information is being disseminated out there. :)

Platik Seijin it is, then.

Thanks for the correction- my eyes skipped the omitted character. I read "Plastic Kaijin Plastic Seijin." Doh!
