Is this your first State of the Union you've watched? I can't remember a State of the Union speech where they didn't clap a "shit ton".

Did you guys see the Republicans? There sure wasn't a "shit ton" of clapping coming from them.

That's right....if there's a Democratic president all the Democratic audiance claps and vice-versa. Stupid isn't it? When the US lost the Olympic for Chicago. The Republicans clapped. Bunch of Biatches. And for the record, I'm a Republican (but mostly for tax reasons).

I'm glad Chicago didn't get the Olympics and I live here, but that's a different conversation.

I enjoyed the moment when the cameraman focused on the assembled Generals of the armed forces just as President Obama was clearly stating that he is going to lift the ban on (open) homosexual service in the US military. TV rules. The political sexual tension between them was fierce. Although it was twice removed, there was an awkwardness that was palpable, an aerosol mixture of revulsion and attraction.

The only moment I enjoyed was when Obama looked at the supreme court and uttered something (I think) about reversing their absolutely ridiculous decision to allow corporations to fully buy their candidates publicly (instead of partially in the public like they do now). Who the hell knows anymore though, every politician is a corporate pawn.

I'll bet twenty quatloos on the Vulcan (Pelosi).

Whatever you might think, him saying this is incredibly awesome. I hope this spurs some change or at least awareness of corporate interests in politics.

I'd like to see a salary cap be instituted for elections.

Not sure if anyone here is advocating the supreme court decision, but if that's the case you're a moron. Far from being naive, I know that corporate and global entities have their hands on just about every official around the world (regardless of party), but saying "that's a good thing" to making it "official" is completely and utterly moronic. What really needs to happen to make the world a better place is to absolutely STOP corporations from having actual citizen rights and being treated like a person.

I think Obama's statement is hypocritical since special interest groups like ACORN and the SEIU helped get him elected.

Not saying Obama is not a hypocrite. I'm saying we need to remove all corporate interest regardless of party in any elected official.

How? Those are both advocate groups for those without power or wealth. That's far different than a large for-profit pharmaceutical company influencing an election by advocating for one candidate or another.

And ditto what Lixx said: Putting an official stamp on behavior that is inherently unfair is just insane.

In good news, I'm happy that today was the day NASA and the DoD got their lets cut off on pork barrel programs like the new program to go to the moon and the F-35. I don't deeply follow that kind of stuff, but they are bloated programs that need to be cut down/back. In the case of NASA it says a lot that a good chunk of their engineers are moving into private sector space development and such; NASA is a relic that needs to manage and create space policy, not finance vehicle creation.

Both ACORN and the SEIU have wealth and power (influence).
Obama works for the interest of ACORN and the SEIU ,and not necessarily the interests of the American people. They got him elected ; (ACORN had several convictions of voter fraud, by the way), and he gives them our tax money.
When campaining , he promised he wouldn't deal with lobbyists, but he broke that promise pretty quickly. I think more and more people are realizing he can't do much more than give a pretty speech.

If you don't understand the difference between Halliburton, big-pharama companies and ACORN and SEIU you don't get it and never will.

I'll break down the state of this union in layman's terms:

The dems get a grand idea to help your average American out, only thing is they can never execute it without disrupting the economy, raising taxes, or basically figuring out how to satisfy every person in their party. The republicans come along get the propaganda machine going telling everyone that the dems are trying to screw you over. Meanwhile they are basically really doing the bidding of corporate interests while posing as moral watchdogs.

Basically this goes back and forth with each side blocking each other and nothing gets done. That is until an election year, when the majority side takes it on the chin and is blamed for everything. Teams then switch and the other becomes the majority, repeat, wash, spin...... Only real losers are the u.s. citizens as the rich stay rich and the poor and middle class get poorer.

Is this the State of the Union, or the State of Affairs.

Sounds like everyday in Washington.
