 District 9 and Avatar.
District 9: Aliens come to Earth and we attempt to exploit them. Avatar: We go to an alien race's planet and attempt to exploit them.
District 9: Man turns into alien, ruins his life. Avatar: Man turns into alien, gets a better life.
District 9: Maybe aliens and humans can't live together, but we're stuck with each other. Avatar: Maybe aliens and humans could have lived together, but we blew it.
District 9: Powered suits are awesome. Avatar: Powered suits are awesome.
I'm sure there's more to be found here. Please add to this.

District 9: Haven't seen it. Avatar: Haven't seen it.
Wait, are they supposed to be opposites?

 Re: District 9 and Avatar.
Men in Black: Aliens are already on Earth and we have a secret organization that polices them. District 9: Aliens come to Earth and we attempt to exploit them. Avatar: We go to an alien race's planet and attempt to exploit them.
Men in Black: Man turns into an alien, tries to destroy life. District 9: Man turns into alien, ruins his life. Avatar: Man turns into alien, gets a better life. Men in Black: Maybe aliens and humans should live openly but for now the aliens are stuck disguising what they look like. District 9: Maybe aliens and humans can't live together, but we're stuck with each other. Avatar: Maybe aliens and humans could have lived together, but we blew it.
Men in Black: Super powered guns are awesome. District 9: Powered suits are awesome. Avatar: Powered suits are awesome.
Is that right?

 Re: District 9 and Avatar.
District 9: Cost less than $30 million to make, had fantastic acting, writing, directing and was one of the better movies I've seen over the last 10 years with somewhat impressive visuals.
Avatar: (you know where this is going right?) Cost around $500 million to make, had some of the worst acting, writing, directing and was one of the worst movies I've seen in my whole life despite the somewhat impressive visuals.

Without having seen Avatar I think this pretty much cuts to the quick of the difference between the two. It's pretty bad when I can't even make it through a trailer!

I pretty much feel the same D9 was better than I thought it would be..I don't have any expectations anymore for movies
and I'm with ya NT.. I couldn't even make it thru the trailer either
I did just see a korean film from 2000 or so called Peppermint Candy ..that was pretty good!
