 Re: Apple iPad
FYI, I highly recommend checking out Other World Computing for information and purchasing cables and such for the Mac Mini. They are an excellent online Macintosh store and have lots of stuff and great explanations of what is what.

 Re: Apple iPad
Yeah this is promising. I can't get the current version on iphone as its only available for the US due to licensing issues I guess. I don't think you can upload your own comics on it though (I have to check) Right now I am using this, which is sweet enough. Check the video demo http://www.bitolithic.com/comiczeal

My next computer is going to be a new iMac. F*ck laptops.....Great if you feel like replacing batteries/ power cords every other year, or backlights.

 Re: Apple iPad
I owned a laptop back in 1992 and it was annoying. Got rid of it and only owned desktop machines until 1997 when I got a PowerBook to go along with my PowerMac so I could do work on the road. Annoying as well. I use a Mac Mini now with a Samsung display and I'm perfectly happy. Anytime I borrow or use someone's MacBook or PowerBook I want to punch it. The keyboard and trackpad are not good for me and starring at that tiny screen is annoying.
And for what I do, I can usually grab a spare machine in the office and just use that to double-check or do quick work.
I've been doing computer work since my teens and web work since 1995 and laptops have never helped me ever. But I would love an iPhone if I could get a choice of carrier and a decent plan. It would actually be useful for me to have a small pocket-sized device that I can carry around to answer e-mails or check on servers.
Edging closer to an iPod touch I guess.

 Re: Apple iPad
I've owned both desktop and laptop macs. Sure laptop's are convenient, but are riddled (at least mac powerbooks are) with heating issues, battery life issues, power cords that break easily, and backlight/hinge problems. They're just not put together to last- at all. I'd rather get myself a nice new large screen iMac, sit at the desk and when I'm done I'm done. If I need to check something on the go isn't that what iphones/itouches are for?

 Re: Apple iPad
Wow, what brand of laptops are you buying that you have issues like that? I've owned three IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads in the past 15 years and have never had one mechanical issue with them, and the only reason I ever gave them up was because they were too slow to run the software I needed to use.

 Re: Apple iPad
I had a Mac laptop that burned up too within a year and a half or 2 years, something like that. No, I wasn't sitting the damned thing on a radiator or anything I know how to take care of computers. It just burned up. Totally sucked, all that money gone because whatever warranty it had was up by then.
Not bashing Apple, they're ok, I just don't worship them or their products (or anyone or anyone's products.)

That's what I get for assuming. Yet any non-Mac based computers I've ever had the problems have been minor and I could fix them myself for cheap or free. Not bashing Apple in this case, was totally a botched book I got I guess, but it certainly sucked. I've spent the cash on few extended warranty's on things and NEVER needed them ever, so it gets to the point where you say "screw it I'll spend the money on something else I need or want!"

Yeah I can understand. I don't usually bother with ext warranty. However given my past experiences with laptops its the way to go. My friends macbook pro screen died a few months after the year warranty. I use to have a powerbook where it had to go back to the shop more than 5 times and in the end they gave me a new one. So I don't even hesitate to get the applecare cos its usually worth it and peace of mind for 3 years. After 3 years its time to get a new one anyway.

 Re: Apple iPad
I just don't buy laptops anymore. I have no use for one. I never need to be on the computer when I'm out, if I DO need internet access I use my phone and my desktop is far sturdier than most any laptop and I can generally fix any problem with it cheaply. For me there's just no use, it'd be pure vanity to own one in my case. My vanity is soley occupied by toys that just sit on a shelf and fill my head with voices.

Wait, let me get this straight. You're saying you have no use for a laptop?

It was all up on my site Idontneedalaptophereswhy.com but I never got to start/finish it due to the only time I had to work on it was outside the house, I wish there was a solution for that.

 Re: Apple iPad
I own two MacBooks and a 24 inch IMac. Love all of them. The MacBooks do get hot and the batteries suck, but working with CS3 or CS4 is pretty smooth. I will never part with my Macs!
