Re: Dredge no longer a sneak peak..
Did they just design the body and arms to require the least amount of work possible?

Re: Dredge no longer a sneak peak..
Is there a story behind this character? The head had a good start. It had enough elements in the sculpt to make it noticable. As a finished sculpt it looks like it lost allot when it came to the body. Seems too simple and un-inspired. Perhaps there is something in the back story that tells more than the sculpt can. Then again it probably wont matter since the overall look of this toy will be the deciding factor weather people will buy this or not. I give it a 3 skulls out of 10. Good effort but no sale...sorry.

Re: Dredge no longer a sneak peak..
All I'll say is that I expected an extremely split reaction on this one. I value the opinion of a lot of you guys, but we can't all like the same thing.
We started this project (The Lake Monsters) to have fun and make some figures by friends of ours, and that's what we're doing.
Personally, and not just speaking as one of the people who made this thing, I've had one of these sitting on my desk for the better part of three weeks and it's really grown on me.

Re: Dredge no longer a sneak peak..
kirby what is the size of this monster?
my random 2 cents...
do the head and arms move?
i actually like the "simplicity" of the body. it seems the arms mimic the horns?
i like the eyes but that pearl like thing on the head looks out of place to me.
I'm not feelin these colors, but I would possibly buy a future version.

8 inches, not including the horns...about 9.5 inches with the horns, depending how they are turned. Arms and the two large horns rotate, head is on a ball joint.

The ball joint is a nice touch.

Re: Dredge no longer a sneak peak..
I'm on the fence about this, I don't hate it but not fully in love yet. I will say for a western toy I do like it and its a step in a better direction.
I think though if a few things where changed it would be a great release.Personally I would have liked to see more of the figures characteristics refined a bit more.
My two cents ...
The head,I really like the head sculpt, but I don't think it needed the third eye. Not being sunk in like the the others makes it feels a tad out of place as well. I think in this case less would have been more and without the distraction the 2 eyes would have been that much more powerful.
I like the body, but think if there where all sorts of odd stuff like sticks and debris coming out of the body it would look wild. Like if this monster was coming out of the murky waters and all the garbage around it was sticking to its rotting corpse like body that was wrapped in this sort of old weathered and rotted cloth.
The arms, I would liked to have seen a more hoofed like goat arm. I think it would have tied in with the goat head. Like if a goat died and its body came back to life and was trying to claw its way out of the murk and got caught up in all the garbage that was covering the body.
All in all though I think once I see one in hand I will have a better feel for it. I do like it and see a ton of potential for paint apps.

The third eye = enlightenment. This sucker is illumined! He's hardwired to the evil badassery!
The third eye says a lot about the character. Without it, it's just another effin' skull.

Re: Dredge no longer a sneak peak..
This reminds me of some sort of demonic hallucination arising from the water. I like Brian's art, but this is a mixed bag for me as his entrance to the toy world. It does seem to fit with the Lake Monster's world though so I applaud you taking the risk and knowing it won't be for everyone.

Re: Dredge no longer a sneak peak..
I know that someone will contradict me on this point, but will say it anyway. I feel like this toy is subject to a different standard simply because it is made by an American artist without the magic of Japanese vinyl. No idea who Brian Morris is, but it is nicely sculpted. It fits in stylistically with stuff like Blobpus or Velocitron. There are a lot of weaker toys coming out of Japan that seem to get a free pass because of their 'lineage.'
I would like to know more about the background of the character and possibly see a side view. Hard to tell what the entire sculpt looks like from head-on.
Has there been any thought given to doing smaller artist-painted runs of these? I could see interesting things being done with Dredge that might not be feasible in a factory run.
Will we see any unpainted versions for sale?

Re: Dredge no longer a sneak peak..
Thanks for the more reasoned comments. Like I said, we knew this wasn't a figure for everyone, but thought it was a fun project, and having fun is our primary guiding factor.
The figures are Chinese vinyl since that's where we have production facilities, but they are all hand-painted here in the states by us in small batches with V-Color and another solvent-based paint we found that works great on vinyl.

Re: Dredge no longer a sneak peak..
It's hard to deny the resemblance of this figure to that of Baphomet... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baphomet It would be interesting to find out the artists intentions in referencing such a strong historical image. As far as the Dredge figure my favorite part would have to be the robe with all the beautifully sculpted folds. The arms sort of remind me of the long skinny feelers on the Larvagon. The head, while well sculpted, sort of gives me the creeps and not in a good way. I just can't get pass, what in my mind, is the references to the dark arts. Maybe I'm reading way to much into it because there is a part of me that is still drawn to the Dredge. One painted solid pewter color wouldn't look bad.

Re: Dredge no longer a sneak peak..
Everyone is can have is opinion. I've tried to get a second look at and I'm disliking it even more. This do not look like a toy at all. A sculpture, maybe. Sub Giger or Pushead, certainly. The beady eyes is a bad idea and the "robe" make it look like a paper weight.

Re: Dredge no longer a sneak peak..
That is my problem with more and more things (jp or otherwise). These are not toys. May artists work cast in vinyl and then painted, but there was no way I can ever imagine wanting to pick this up and play with it. Plastichunter, that was the first thing I thought of also. I'd expect to see this at hot topic or spencers. I wasn't a fan of the first toy in this line but it just wasn't my thing. This, this is a whole different "not like" for me. nefasth wrote: Everyone is can have is opinion. I've tried to get a second look at and I'm disliking it even more. Re: Dredge no longer a sneak peak..
Black metal album covers don't translate well to toys, sorry dudes. I think the Muscamoot (sp?) thing they made is kinda cool but this, meh. Not just content but design, it seems off on so many levels and not in an "interpretive" way either.
