Post Gegege no Kitaro DVDs ?
Does anyone know where I could buy the 60's series on DVD ?

I've been looking with no luck.

I rather it be subtitled not dubbed as well.

Thanks in advance

I imagine these will only be subbed.

I would love to find a set too, but fear they will be pretty expensive.

I've been watching them on you tube and can't get enough. I must sound crazy mumbleing the theme song all day :)

I've seen 60's 70's and 80's sets, but none of the DVDs have subs or dubbing. Maybe there is a custom sub, or other version out there.

It never got a domestic release. Raw DVDs or fansubbed online is about it.

Oh great Bert, now my brain has that song in stereo with actual lyrics now.  seriously, thanks for posting it

Watching raw Japanese DVDs takes a bit of getting used to. I collect Japanese 70's Robot shows and allot of the uncommon ones are un-subbed with Japanese audio only. I find when viewing subtitles that I miss allot of what's going on screen. The stories are pretty simple anyway and it's not hard to get what's going on. If it's the only game in town I'll prolly go that route.

Well thats some bad news. I wonder why it never got subbed or dubbed and released in the US. I would think by now it would have a strong enough following to justify doing this.

That may not be a good thing. Look what the US dvd people did to Go Lion (Voltron). For it to be marketable in the US they would probably edit and recut this thing to death to fit the general american taste for animation. The current anime dvd companies (ADV, VIZ etc) are only interested in modern anime unless it's a guaranteed heavy hitter like Macross, Akira,Tetsujin 28, Astro Boy, etc.

Also if you really think about it in a producers stand point the fan following would have to be large enough to make it a safe bet sales wise. This is cause I can't imagine any US company releasing a US version of this with only subtitles and no English audio. That means American voice over actors for the whole cast for XX episode of Gegege no Ketaro. I imagine that's not cheap.

Keep looking for Fan sub boots. You'll find it eventually if you look hard enough.

its got as much chance of being released as the original Kamen Rider.

Actually, the GoLion subbed DVDs are really good....original, uncut eps with Japanese audio. Dairugger done the same way should be out soon, and I can't wait. Also, Mospeada and Southern Cross got the same treatment (yeah, I know it was only because they were part of Robotech). If all those sell well, there's always hope we'll get more of the good stuff.

I think he ment the actual voltron series which was pieced together out of go lion and random other things and cut and pasted with new story lines and dialogue.
That said I will never stop loving voltron.
I have the golion in my netflix queue but wanted to make it through all of the voltron dvds I bought a while back first to see what the differences really were like.

Thats not a commercial release though, which is what I meant.

Nice to see someone having a go though. Is there a way to download from youtube, I hate watching youtube for extended periods of time.
