Huh... look at that. I guess I could say something about the whole process surrounding the figure turning me off. Maybe it was just how gross the Meat version was, but I have lost interest for the sculpt... it just weirds me out now.

There's something completely unnerving about the giant extended lips and mouth of the Siamese head. It's just too much for me.

The features on both heads, particularly the nose, make me think it was sculpted to look like a caucasian.

That's NagNagNag? I remember talking with that guy for a while last time I was in Tokyo. He was a total weirdo! It's awesome to know he created this.

I want to see one in person.

The face is like a mishapen head from Angkor Wat.

So I was combing through the thread to try and pluck out the pics of the figure (which is a task because too much of this thread is about stupid shit that has little to do with the toy) to compile a photo list of the versions so far just to see them all together. Sadly a lot are now gone and I'm too lazy to browse Flickr too (so hint hint, Alice or Joe maybe? Got all the release pics?!)

ANYWAY while doing so I realized that one of the first versions was a Frankenruge already, and to try and get things back on course thought it'd be cool to compare.

Here are the ones I found.

Just that it looks like a monstrous gaijin, the way the old depictions of the oni were supposed to look with their big noses. That and the "FUCK USA" print on the feet, "Made on Occupied Japan," the barbarian/caveman references, and so on does make it look like a criticism of Western culture, but I don't think I'm saying anything that wasn't pointed out in the first ten pages of this thread.

I forgot about that last one Bryce, thanks! I was mainly interested in hunting down pics of the earlier versions. I can't locate a pic of the orange right now myself, though I'm looking.

I like this sculpt. And I'm not bashing it for this, but the crude style of this guy really masks a level of ability in the sculptor, or at least the effort put in. Just things like the hands and feet- the symmetry is off the forms are basic. The face isn't clearly structured more like a lump with a brow nose and lips plopped on. You can tell by how low the lips are placed and the lack of any chin or jaw.
And all that is what gives this toy its character. But IMHO I doubt this figure is meant to resemble any ethnicity. And Japanese came from Cavemen too, right?

Sure, we all did, but it wasn't too long ago, during World War 2, when white foreigners were frequently labeled "savages." The first Europeans were referred to as "barbarians." The Japanese have a pretty long history of stuff like that, so when I see a figure with a face like that and words like "caveman" attached, my mind makes the connection. Don't have a problem with it, I'm just pointing out what I think I'm seeing.

(of course, I realize that other cultures like my own do similar things, it's human nature)
