 Gomorrah
This is a little late, but I just got around to watching Gomorrah on DVD. A great, gritty movie about the Camorra crime syndicate. As a theatrical release, this one flew under the radar in the US. If you have not seen it, do so.

 Re: Gomorrah
As a mmovie buff of all types, I will weigh in this film could be the worst l viewed last year. It fell so far shy of the glowing reviews I'd read that I wanted someone to shoot ME in the head. A mark of a bad movie--it doesn't end when it should.

 Re: Gomorrah
What were you expecting - some overly stylized HK style, shoot-em-up?

 Re: Gomorrah
Selekta, the author's name is Roberto Saviano, and yeah, he got death threats when his book was published. My understanding is that he's still in hiding. http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2008/oct/15/roberto-saviano-gomorrah-italyThe movie is amazing. It probably wouldn't have gotten international distribution if it weren't for Scorcese's advocacy. When I first saw it, I thought "how did this even get made?" Sort of like "City of God." You see slices of a world that normally doesn't let "eyes" in. Great acting, too many great scenes to count. If it seems confusing at first, just go along for the ride. It's one of those movies that shows multiple layers of criminal enterprise, a little like "The Wire" or "Traffic." Another amazing recent Criterion release is UK artist Steve McQueen's first film, "Hunger," about the UDA hunger strike and specifically Bobby Sands. One of the very best films of the past decade. If you have a low tolerance for violence and body decay, be prepared, but the movie is ultimately humane and very artistic.

Same here, this movie did nothing for me, I wanted it to be over long before it was. And fuck Avatar to while I'm at it!

 Re: Gomorrah
I liked Gomorrah a lot. Suckered in by the Scorsese recommendation and bought the CriCo DVD.....which ended up not being a bad selection. The initiation scene is really intense. It's a great crime movie...I'd like to actually hear what people didn't like about it?
